Well, so good so far both socially and academically!
I am getting more and more interested in artificial intelligence and computational neuroscience. I already have my own research topics, one of which that I am especially focusing on now is the abstract formal model for the universal intelligence by using some specific mathematical system. Those topics are pretty "huge" that I might even have to spend the rest of my life on them. But, unfortunately, I couldn't find a professor who had similar interests to mine at Stanford, so I am thinking about going to Princeton for this or next summer vacation where I heard there are a few physics professors working on the similar topics.
One thing and probably the only thing I am disappointed with math and science guys here is that some of them do not have much passion for science itself but passion for showing how smart they are. Oh, please, I HATE that kind of elitism. They are smart, yes. That being said, I am so sad that I might have to work with those elitists in the future. Worse still, as a matter of fact, Stanford is one of the least elitist top schools in the nation. I am hearing how snobbish Harvard and Princeton and those other east coast college kids become after graduation. I really wanna avoid those kids.l0l
Anyway,
FYI: my physics class uses "David Morin's Introduction to Classical Mechanics" as a textbook. This book grew out of Harvard University's honors freshman mechanics course. Problem sets are very challenging and worth solving. Very good book for those who want advanced problem solving skills in mechanics.
P.S. I just took a physics research topic seminar course whose speaker for today was a nobel prize winner, Douglas D. Osheroff. He went to caltech for undergrad and took freshman and sophomore physics classes taught by Richard Feynman. Even though he won the novel prize, there were a few even smarter kids than himself in his class, he said, and by asking questions to them, he learned a lot about physics maybe more from them than from Feynman. So, don't be intimidated by smart dudes around you(chances are that you might be better than they are if you have burning passion for whatever you wanna study and take initiative!) And don't hesitate to ask questions to peers and collaborate. It's arguably the best way to learn something. Finally, Be brave! Professors might make mistakes. Oscheroff himself disagreed with his thesis advisor when he was in graduate school and achieved a breakthrough in physics which led him to the nobel prize.
첫댓글It sounds interesting but a lot of work at the same time. Good that u r enjoting what u r doin up there. n there r always people showing up themselves everywhere :p don't care so much about them haha.
Yes. That's why i've contacted a computer science professor who is teaching my cs introsem course. But, princeton seems to have more diversity in terms of research fields in physics than Stanford, even though overall quality of physics department is about the same.
Wow~~~ I envy you your youth and passion. I wish your good luck. Work hard and become the first person who win the nobel prize in korea. Frankly speaking I,too, am preparing for studying abroad in Australia and my purpose in my whole life is to win the nobel prize in the field of physics. ha ha ha~~~ but I suppose if I was to give advice, I would say you shoud sing another song. It may be presumptuous of me, in my view you seem to overestimate yourself a little.^^;; Don´t take it the wrong way. It's only my view. Anyway Way to go!
I don't get what you mean by "I seem to overestimate myself." and I can read Koreans here so you can write in Korean if you want so that there will be no misunderstanding between us. Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't take any offense but i'm just curious why you think so. To be honest, nobody can ever overestimate themselves because there is no limit for anyone. Of course age doesn't matter as well. I suggest that you read some of Paulo Coelho's books(not sure if i spell his name right). Just in case my mentioning my research interests made you think so, actually my research interests are quite
concrete and doable I guess. I already started to recruit some computer science majors and professors to work with. They are very enthusiastic about my idea. But, i cannot share my idea in the public place like here before it is published. p.s. Oh, I don't give the nobel prize a shit. it's none of my interest.

Ye, i am trying to ignore those jerks. :P
헛 AI쪽에 관심있는 교수님이 없다는건 좀 의외인듯? 물리학과 쪽 말고 수학과나 컴터공학, 전자공학쪽에 교수님은 안계실까요? ㅋㅅㅋ

근데 프린스톤까지 멀지 않나요?;ㅅ;? 가까운가;;
