Wow... I have also thought about many of the things you mentioned! It is also interesting and important to realise that all these changes in the use and value of money have happened within our own lifetime.
I too remember every stage, and remember the stacks of 10,000 won bills. Korea was still a cash culture when I arrived... using a credit card was more shameful as it meant that you didn't have money. Now it is the opposite, if you use cash, it is almost shameful as it means you don't have credit!! Your credit is more important now!!
Yes, I totally agree... money is a tool and should stay a tool for goodness. 
You mentioned the story of Ananias... yes, the Bible is very strict about the use of money...I am also reminded of what Jesus said in Matthew 19:24 - harder for a richman to get into heaven than a camel to get through the eye of a needle... 
Money is indeed power... but should be the power to do good.
