<하나님은-- >

Weekly Meditation 26-42
〈God Is-〉
As Scripture describes Him,
He is love,
faithful,
just,
eternal,
and true;
the LORD of hosts,
Savior, King, Refuge, Shepherd,
Healer, and Potter.
To gather these into a few words:
all-knowing, almighty,
present everywhere-
the Alpha and the Omega.
To express it all
in a single name,
the most fitting would be
God our Father.
Throughout human culture and history,
the greatest word: “Father.”
My father,
among all fathers,
was the finest of all.
The time I most long to return to
is my childhood,
when my father was still alive.
I never saw
my grandfather’s face,
but my father often
spoke of him.
My grandfather embraced the gospel
and held family worship
in the main room of his home.
There, Hwangbeol Church began,
and seven churches were established
in the nearby villages.
Whenever I return to my hometown,
I visit those churches.
Sometimes, at dawn or late at night,
even when I cannot meet
their members or pastors,
I pray there before leaving.
During my elementary school years,
I would follow my father
to see my grandfather’s old home
and visit his grave.
We have since prepared a family burial ground
and moved all their remains together
to that one place.
Though my grandfather’s original grave
is no longer there,
I sometimes go alone
to the place where it once stood.
A father who gives,
even knowing his son will squander it;
who embraces the returning prodigal
and prepares a feast,
rejoicing as he says,
“This son of mine was dead
and is alive again”-
such a Father.
When my own father passed away,
how I wept-
On September 17, sixty-five years ago,
I held his lifeless body close
and cried through the night
until I fell asleep.
Before he left this world,
my father placed me
in the arms of God our Father.
What a precious inheritance
he left me.
As a middle school boy
living away from home,
I would carefully save
the few coins I received
as tips for running errands,
then give them to my father
when I returned home.
“You saved these instead of spending them-”
His words still ring in my ears.
Most people may fear death,
but the hope of seeing my father again
fills me with joyful anticipation
as I await that day.
My grandfather, too,
and God our Father-
I want to tell my father, with pride,
about his grandchildren.
