십우도 Ten Oxherding Pictures, 팔상도 Eight Scenes of Buddha’s life, 卍자 문양 Swastika, 풍경 Wind bell

On the outer walls of the Main Hall, along with the paintings depicting the life of Buddha and there are often the Ten Oxherding Pictures. And on the outside ends of the Main Hall, up towards the roof, you will see a swastika. The edge of the eaves, a wind bell with a fish clapper is dangling.

대웅전 외벽에는 주로 부처님 일생을 묘사한 그림이나 십우도가 그려져 있다. 그리고 건물의 바깥의 지붕 위쪽에서는 卍자 문양을 볼 수 있다. 처마 끝에는 물고기 모양 추를 가진 풍경이 매달려 있다.

The progressive whitening of the ox symbols the gradual awakening of the oxherd to his true nature.(수행정도에 따라) 점점 하얘지는 소를 좇는 십우도는, 깨달음을 향한 목동의 수행 과정을 상징한다. ‘Pal Sang Do’ is a painting of the eight scenes of the life of the Buddha. It can be found in the Eight Pictures Hall.(팔상도는 부처님의 일생 중 중요한 8장면을 그린 것으로 팔상전에서 볼 수 있다). The swastika is a symbol of peace, harmony, and good luck.(卍자 문양은 평화, 조화, 행운을 상징한다).
