During my work, I found the word "subliminate". I searched all the web dictionaries possbile, but I couldn't find it out. I'm not sure if it is related to the word "sublime" or "express something". If it is, I can guess the word on my own.
Anyway, Mr. Yoo, I ask you to help me with the word "Subliminate".
For your understanding, I add the sentence where the word "subliminate" is included.
"Sexual frustration was subliminated into violence, war, and oppression, so it was a good idea to "sleep around".
첫댓글Hi, Sooh! Subliminate is closely related to sublime in that it means "making something sublime". In specific, it means to express one's "dark" feelings as something more acceptable (and therefore sublime) in the society. So a good Korean translation would be "승화시키다". But sometimes,
what comes out through sublimination is not positive (and not sublime), as in the case you show--war, violence. This is a result of natural evolution of the word subliminate. A better Korean word in this case would be "표출하다".
to subliminate is a very rare and unusual that has appeared in the english language normally when we are discussing the effect of media on society. It is the verb we use when we are talking about something being transferred "subliminally" into society or our minds.
"sublimination" is the process of "subliminal transfer" -- that is when we are receiving a message without our mind being aware of it. A common example in English: "The lyrics of Gangster rap songs subliminate violence." So what we are saying is we are passing on a message
or idea in a "subliminal" way. This implies that the transfer is happing in a subtle and indirect way. I think the author is saying that "Sexual frustration leads to war violence and oppresion in society, so to avoid these things, the hippies liked to sleep around"
