CASE 4: Abdominal pain

Doctor:     Good morning. What’s your problem?

Patient:    I have a stomach pain from last night.

Doctor:     What was your last meal?

Patient:    I had meat for last dinner.

Doctor:     Do you have diarrhea or vomiting? How many times did you get it?

 Patient:   Yes, I had vomiting 2 times.

Doctor:     Do you have any other symptoms?

                 Do you take any medicines currently?

Patient:    Yes, I’m taking medicines for diabetes and hypertension.

Doctor:     Do you have any allergies to medicine?

Patient:    Yes, I am allergic to penicillin drug.

Doctor:     Have you ever been hospitalized or undergone any surgeries before?

Patient:    10 years ago, I got a heart surgery in the United States.

Doctor:     Okay. Now I will start Intravenous injection to balance the fluid loss.

                 Then you can get an Abdominal Ultrasound scan.

Coordinator:      I’ll give an intravenous injection, so could you make a fist please?

                 I’ll use a big needle so you will feel a little sting.

Patient:     I’m scared.

Coordinator:       It will be over soon. Now relax your hand … it is over.

                 I’ll give you intramuscular injection to control the abdominal pain.

                 Turn to your side and down your pants and lie down in the bed.

Patient:     Is that over?

Coordinator:       Yes. Next we have blood and urine culture.

                  After that you can go to your room.

Patient:     Okay. Finish it. I need to take rest.

Coordinator:     In case of pneumonia the symptoms are similar to yours. So we want to confirm‎ it.

Patient:   I see. Where should I go?

Coordinator:     You should go the X-ray department on the 2^nd floor. I’ll take you there.
