Academy of Korean Authentic Acupuncture & Moxibustion

Academy of Korean Authentic Acupuncture & Moxibustion (hereunder “AKAAM”) is a non-profit organization with the goal of researching and publicizing the traditional civilian medicine called “Chimtm”, which means acupuncture and moxibustion.

AKAAM has its roots in charity treatments nationwide and worldwide in the 1980s. “Aeguhei”, which means “the ...Fraternity of Moxibustion Love” was established under the guidance of Gudang in June 1993. It changed its name to Tmsarang, which literally means “Love of Moxibustion” in Korean in July 1997. This paves the way for setting up its academy where people can learn acupuncture and moxibustion. Its motto is to “LEARN TO GIVE AWAY.” It runs charity treatment centers nationwide.

AKAAM has about 30 charity treatment centers in Korea. It also has charity treatment centers in Vietnam, China and United States. It is interested in establishing more charity treatment centers in the other countries by making known the efficacies of acupuncture and moxibustion.

AKAAM is a member of WCCM (World Congress of Chinese Medicine). Gudang submitted his thesis, titled “Clinical Research on Infertility”, in WCCM 2010, which was held in the Netherlands.

AKAAM has its own training centers across the country. It has made every effort possible to make the public know and experience more about moxibustion and acupuncture. The treatment centers provide the seniors and foreigners with acupuncture and moxibustion therapy. It also opens free seminars for the public nationwide, which will teach them basics about moxibustion and Gudang’s unique therapy as well. Through the seminars, the public can learn to cure themselves with moxibustion at home.

AKAAM has its training centers across the country. Here is the curriculum of the Academy.

Basic Course (3 months, weekday or weekend)

- Introduction to Acupuncture & Moxibustion

- Acupuncture & Moxibustion Protocols and Channels

- Anatomy

Advanced Course (3 months, weekday or weekend)

- Acupuncture & Moxibustion Skills

- Causes and developments of Diseases

- Study of Oriental Human Organs

- Field Training on Locating acupuncture points and Treating patients

- Gudang’s Burn Therapy

Professional Course (6 months, weekday or weekend)

- Acupuncture & Moxisbustion Diagnosis

- Acupuncture & Moxibustion Treatment Method

- Field Training in its Charity treatment centers

Students must pass the test for each course before moving on to the next course. The Acupuncture & Moxibustion Therapist Certificates are granted to those who successfully pass the Chimtm Therapist Test after graduation of the Academy. There are about 5,000 therapists from the Academy. Most of the therapists are volunteering in its charity treatment centers across the country. They live up to the motto, “To Learn to Give away.”

Gudang, the creator of AKAAM, is 97 years old now. He has been practicing acupuncture and moxibustion for more than 70 years. The master is still active in publicizing the efficacies of moxibustion around the world.
