The Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), is a biennial multi-sport event involving participants from the current 11 countries of Southeast Asia.
The Games are under regulation of the Southeast Asian Games Federation with supervision by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Olympic Council of Asia.
The IFF has now received the positive news that floorball will for the first time be included as a demonstration sport in the SEA Games in 2013 in Myanmar. This was decided during the SEAGF Council meeting, January 28th – 29th 2013, in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.
The preliminary dates for the SEA Games 2013 are December 11th - 22nd 2013.
The IFF has at the moment members in five out of eleven SEA Games countries. These countries are: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. There is however good progress also in other SEA Games countries.
- The IFF Vision approved by the General Assembly includes as an objective that we would be included in multi-sport events, latest in 2020. And as a part of our strategic vision, IFF has together with the Singapore Floorball Association worked for the inclusion of floorball in the SEA Games. The inclusion of floorball in the 2013 SEA Games is of course fabulous news for the development of our sport, says IFF President, Mr. Tomas Eriksson.
The IFF AOFC Vice President Mr. Sani Mohd Salim will on February 25th – 28th go to Myanmar to have a meeting with the Singapore Sports Council, in order to discuss the details of the floorball tournament.
