IMX 70 is launched and tested Fulfilling the expectations The all new carbon built IMX 70 was test sailed on Friday 15th July and Saturday 16th July 2005 in Haderslev by a test crew consisting of X-Yachts Design Group and Development Team. The one hour motoring out of the beautiful Haderslev Fiord was very comfortable ? gliding smoothly through the water making almost no sound. Reaching open waters the speed of the 160 HP Yanmar engine was increased to 10 knots ? still vibrations were very limited and it was a pleasure to be on board. On Friday sails were hoisted in 10 knots of wind, and with the gennaker set she easily reached a speed of 10.5 knots. Saturday the wind had increased to 15 to 18 knots and the jib was tried out ? same speed of 10.5 knots was reached. As usual, Lars Jeppesen test sailed the IMX 70 and commented afterwards: “The  first trial sail has fulfilled our expectations. The steering is extremely easy downwind as well as on all other courses, she feels very balanced and has a good response on the rudder. She is a easily driven yacht with a very high stability. We will continue testing her in the coming weeks before we hand her over the owner in August.” Interior photos and a full test report will follow on this website in August.

IMX 70 ? Launched and Delivered The exclusive IMX 70 is now on her delivery trip to the Mediterranean after her full function testing in August and presentation to her owner early September. Tested at the yard During the initial sea trials with X-Yachts design and sailing specialists on board, the IMX 70 showed off her potential both in performance and in her ease of handling due to this vessel’s high degree of technical installations. The captive winches for mainsheet and main halyard allow the helmsman to stand relaxed behind the steering wheel and control the yacht’s trim and course. The only time the crew needs to get involved is when the helmsman asks for a tack. But even then the hydraulic winches for the Genoa ensure that sheeting is done with the press of a button. The owner takes over With all this technology on board, the fear could be that you loose the feeling of the yacht, but this is far from the case due to the detailed and individual design of keel, rudder and steering system. The new owner of the IMX 70 said: “The IMX 70 is even easier to helm than my previous X-562, and she is stiffer, in addition to this her speed is impressive and she is a beauty on the water.” With a shorthanded crew and no one on the rail, the IMX 70 reached 9.3 knots at a 22° APW with a breeze of 10 to 12 knots. Hoisting the Code 1 under these conditions gave a max boat speed just above 10 knots. Carbon hull and deck The full carbon hull and deck has given the yacht an extremely stiff and rigid construction and despite the luxurious interior the yacht has a light displacement of 28 tons. Under engine out of the picturesque Haderslev Fjord, the high standard of the engine installation and noise insulation showed its capabilities. The noise level on deck was extremely low and also under deck it was quiet and comfortable. The 160 HP Yanmar engine provided speed up to 9.5 knots at 2500 rpm and with the 3-bladed Gori folding propeller maneuvering into the harbour was secure and very responsive. New interior styling The new interior styling and design has impressed her new owner. With the teak veneer paneling throughout the yacht and clear line layout this vessel sets itself apart from the more conventional designs in the market. At the same time the interior provides excellent quarters for family members and guests to enjoy themselves and relax on board the yacht. The interior designers went into minute detail as to furniture design, and in close cooperation with X-Yachts’ carpenters many new details were invented; for example the new corner designs that combine beauty with functionality i.e. ventilation of the wardrobes. The IMX 70 hull No 1 was designed to suit the new owner’s needs, wishes and desires, and in a fine cooperation between owner and the yard a beautiful semi custom yacht was born.
