안녕하십니까?

오늘도 우리의 삶을 예비하시고 인도하시는 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 문안드립니다.

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ who prepares and guides us.

(이 편지는 아리조나 나바호원주민보호구역내 투바시티(Tuba City)에서 선교사 이 영호 목사가 보내드리는 미국 원주민 선교소식입니다.)

(This is a Newsletter from Mission Pastor Young Lee in Tuba City, AZ, Navajo Nation.)

세계적 전염병과 미국의 선거 등... 혼돈으로 얼룩진 이 한 해가 이제 꼬리부분으로 접어들었습니다.

지난 3월 소식 드린 후, 8개월 만에 소식을 드립니다.

잊고 있어서가 아니라 아마도 장기 격리로 인한 우울함으로 그리 되었나 스스로 변명해봅니다.

어찌 들 지내시는지요?

많은 선교사님들과 교회들이 판데믹으로 인해 어려움을 겪는다는 소식을 듣습니다.

저희들을 염려해주시고 위로해주시는 많은 말씀들을 듣습니다.

그나마 저희들은 잘 견디고 있다는 생각에 우리보다 더 어려우실 여타 선교사님들, 지역교회들, 사업체들, 그리고 바깥세상 모든 분들께서도 이 어려움을 잘 감당하실 수 있기를 기도합니다.

We are at the end of the year of 2020; time of confusion with pandemic and the general election of America.

It's been eight months since the last letter in March.

Not because we forgot, but maybe somewhat discouraged with the situations.

How have you all been doing?

We've been hearing that many missionaries and local churches are struggling in the time like this.

Many expressed their concerns and encouragements for us.

Thinking we might be better than many others, praying that God helps those missionaries, churches, businesses and individuals who might be struggling more than us.

여러분들께서 기도해주시고 도와주시는 덕분에 저희들은 잘 지내고 있습니다.

건강을 위하여 운동도 하고 장래의 일을 위하여 꿈꾸고 기도도 하고, 시대를 통해서 들려주시는 주님의 음성을 듣기 위하여 노력하고 있습니다.

그리고 약간의 진전과 깨달음 속에서 감사드립니다.

We are doing good with your prayer and support.

Exercising for health, dreaming and praying for future ministries, trying to listen to God who's telling us with what's happening around, etc.

Certainly we are learning little by little.

활동이 거의 중지된 상태지만 저희 선교카페에 게재된 게시물들을 틈틈이 둘러보시고 기도해주시면 대단히 고맙겠습니다.

내일 일을 알 수 없으니 그저 주님의 인도하심을 따를 뿐입니다.

We don't know what's going to happen tomorrow so just follow His lead.

이번에는 다음 몇 가지 소식을 전해드립니다.

We will share the followings in this newsletter.

1. PCS 목사들의 장마당사역: 전면 중단

Pastors Community Services in Market: All Cancelled.

2. 단기선교 및 일반사역: 전면 중단

Short-Term and Regular Ministries: All Cancelled.

3. 나바호 판데믹 현황

Pandemic in the Navajo Reservation

이곳은 열악한 주거 및 위생환경 등으로 상당히 어려운 지경에 처해있습니다.

매일 밤 9-5 통금과 주말 56시간 통금에도 불구하고 11월 20일자로 174,000명의 현지 주거인 가운데 14,441 감염자와 623 사망자를 기록하고 있습니다.

조속한 사태 종료 및 환경개선이 이뤄짐으로 이런 상황이 반복되지 않도록 기도해주십시오.

Due to residential and sanitary condition, 12,971 contracted and 596 deaths among 174,000 residents in spite of every night and 56 hours weekend curfew.

Please pray for the recovery and prevention of further possible occurrence with housing and sanitation improvement.

4. 약간의 구제사역

Some Relief Ministries

구제헌금과 구제물자가 대여섯 번 정도 답지하여 지역 자치단체를 통하여 전달하였습니다.

We delivered several donations of relief fund and items through local government.

5. 주거환경 개선사역 개시

Beginning of Home Improvement Ministry

지난 8년 동안 거의 모든 현장사역들이 저희 부부에 의해 이뤄지다 이제 동역사역이 시작되는 순간입니다.

약간의 생활비와 사역비가 증가할 것으로 생각됩니다만 우리가 그저 하나님의 역사에 집중할 때 또한 하나님께서는 당신을 섬기시는 많은 분들을 통하여 우리의 필요를 채워주시리라 믿습니다.

현지 형편으로 미뤄 볼 때 이 또한 매우 중요하고 유익한 사역이 될 것으로 예측되는 만큼 많은 관심을 가지고 기도해주시기 바랍니다.

또한 단기로 이 사역에 동참하실 수 있는 전문가, 혹은 보조자들의 명단을 확보하여 동역하고자 합니다.

I and my wife have been doing most of the field ministries alone for last 8 years.

But this is the moment of beginning of the team ministries.

We expect some increased expenses for life and ministry but will focus more on serving God while believing God will supply what we need through the sacrificial dedications of those who'd like to serve the same God.

The Home Improvement Ministry is a very needed and can be very beneficial for locals, so please remember this in your prayer.

Also we'd like to establish a database of those possible volunteers (expert or helper) on this building ministries.

Please let us know your availability.

6. 선교사 숙소 건축부지 확보에 관하여

Effort to Secure the Home Site Lease for Missionary's Housing

현지 특성상 숙소를 확보하는 것이 사역을 위하여 매우 중요합니다.

실제로 8년 전 저희 부부도 숙소를 확보함으로 그동안의 모든 사역들이 가능했던 것이지요.

이제 동역을 앞에 두고 (방과후학교 선교관 건축부지 확보 노력과는 별개로) 동역자들의 공동숙소가 꼭 필요한 상황이며 이를 위하여 숙소 건축을 위한 대지확보가 필요하게 되었습니다.

(공동숙소 확보가 될 때까지는 임시변통으로 저희 거주처를 사용할 생각입니다만.)

게다가 사역차량 등의 늘어나는 “재산”을 보관할 터와 건물도 필요한 상황입니다.

이를 위하여, 하나님의 인도하심과 현지인들의 도움을 받으며 지난 삼사 년 간의 기도와, 궁리와, 고민 가운데 사택 건축 부지 확보를 위해 노력하던 끝에, (판데믹으로 인한 업무중단도 겹친 가운데) 매우 중요하고 어려운 절차 두어 개를 해결하게 되었고, 이로 인하여 택지 확보의 가능성이 매우 높아진 상태입니다.

현지에서의 택지(Home Site Lease)확보는 현지인들에게도 쉽지 않아 십여 년을 노력하다가 결국 포기하는 경우도 흔한 것에 비춰볼 때 저희들의 택지 확보는 결코 쉽지 않은 일이지만 이만큼 온 것도 하나님의 감동에 의한 현지인들의 도움 덕분이 아닐 수 없습니다.

택지 확보는 그 자체로 하나의 과제가 아닐 수 없으며 그 후의 건축도 저희들에게는 불가능한 도전일 수밖에 없습니다.

그러나 하나님이 우리의 존재와 사역이 현지에 뿌리를 내리는 것을 원하신다면 여러 손길들을 통하여 이뤄주실 줄로 믿고 추진합니다.

(선교하면서 배짱만 늡니다.ㅠㅠ)

It is crucial to secure housing for field ministry here in the Reservation.

Actually, securing the current resident 8 years ago made all these ministries possible.

Facing the team ministries, we need to secure the mission house so that the Home Site Lease, other than (addition to) the Business Site for After-School Ministries.

(Meanwhile we will use my 3 bedrooms housing for immediate need.)

Also we need a space to store increasing assets such as ministry vehicles etc.

We've been praying, thinking, agonizing, and trying for this effort for a few years.

As a mid-result, we have got through a couple of very critical and difficult procedures and increased the possibility of securing the home site (amid of pandemic caused office lockdown).

Knowing that securing of Home Site Lease is difficult enough for locals that they commonly give up 10 or more years effort, we have to admit that even this much was possible by the God-inspired helps of those local personnels.

Securing the site is one but construction is another task, very challenging which is impossible for ourselves.

But I am sure that God will do it with those God-Serving hands if, He is pleased with our presence and ministry being localized; incarnated in the Reservation.

(So, I may complain that I am getting bolder in the process of ministry.)
