나의 가족 사진첩에는 내 딸이 네 살 때에 찍은 사진이 있는데,

장난감 망치를 들고 내 옆에서 집의 바깥벽을 수리하고 있는 모습을 담고 있습니다.

In my family scrapbook is a picture of my daughter

at age 4 working next to me,

using a toy hammer to repair the siding on the house.

그날 우리는 서로 나란히 일했습니다.

딸아이는 나의 모든 행동을 따라했는데,

자기도 집을 수리하고 있다고 절대적으로 확신하고 있었습니다.

Side by side we worked that day;

she imitated my every action,

absolutely convinced that she too was fixing the house.

그때만큼 집안일이 즐거운 적이 별로 없었습니다.

Rarely have I enjoyed a chore more.

사진을 보면 딸아이도 즐거워하고 있는 것이 분명합니다.

In the picture, it's obvious that she's enjoying it too.

그 사진을 보면

아이들은 우리가 하는 거의 모든 말과 행동들을 보고

그대로 따라한다는 사실을 생각하게 합니다.

That photo reminds me

that our children mimic

most of what they see in us-words and deeds.

또한 그들은 우리가 부모로서 보여주는 모습을 통해 하나님의 모습을 형성합니다.

They also form their images of God

from the images they have of us as parents.

우리가 엄하고 자비롭지 않다면,

그들은 하나님도 그럴 것이라고 생각하기 쉽습니다.

If we're stern and unmerciful,

they're likely to see God that way too.

우리가 무관심하고 차갑다면,

아이들에게는 하나님도 그렇게 보일 것입니다.

If we're distant and cold,

so God will seem to them as well.

우리 아이들이 하나님을,

특히 그분의 무조건적인 사랑의 모습을 명확히 알 수 있도록 도와주는 것은

부모로서의 우리의 가장 중요한 의무 중의 하나입니다.

It is one of our most important duties as parents

to help our children see God clearly,

especially the unconditional nature of His love.

비슷한 사진이 들어있는 하나님과 나와의 가족 사진첩을 상상해봅니다.

I can imagine the family scrapbook of my relationship with God

having a similar picture.

나는 하나님으로부터 인생을 어떻게 살고, 어떻게 사랑하고,

어떻게 그것을 영구적으로 나의 일부분으로 삼을 수 있는가에 대해서 배우고 있습니다.

I'm learning from Him how to live life, how to love,

and how to make it a perma-nent part of my being.

그러고 나서 그분은

어떻게 다른 사람들을 가르칠 수 있는가에 대해 내게 가르쳐주십니다(신 6:1-7).

He then teaches me how to teach others (Deut. 6:1-7).

주님, 주님을 이해할 수 있게 해주시고 그것을 전할 수 있는 지혜를 주시옵소서.

Deuteronomy 신명기 6:1-9

[신] 6:1	이는 곧 너희의 하나님 여호와께서 너희에게 가르치라고 명하신 명령과 규례와 법도라 너희가 건너가서 차지할 땅에서 행할 것이니 These are the commands, decrees and laws the LORD your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess,
[신] 6:2	곧 너와 네 아들과 네 손자들이 평생에 네 하나님 여호와를 경외하며 내가 너희에게 명한 그 모든 규례와 명령을 지키게 하기 위한 것이며 또 네 날을 장구하게 하기 위한 것이라 so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the LORD your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life.
[신] 6:3	이스라엘아 듣고 삼가 그것을 행하라 그리하면 네가 복을 받고 네 조상들의 하나님 여호와께서 네게 허락하심 같이 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅에서 네가 크게 번성하리라 Hear, O Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, promised you.
[신] 6:4	이스라엘아 들으라 우리 하나님 여호와는 오직 유일한 여호와이시니 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.
[신] 6:5	너는 마음을 다하고 뜻을 다하고 힘을 다하여 네 하나님 여호와를 사랑하라 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
[신] 6:6	오늘 내가 네게 명하는 이 말씀을 너는 마음에 새기고 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.
[신] 6:7	네 자녀에게 부지런히 가르치며 집에 앉았을 때에든지 길을 갈 때에든지 누워 있을 때에든지 일어날 때에든지 이 말씀을 강론할 것이며 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
[신] 6:8	너는 또 그것을 네 손목에 매어 기호를 삼으며 네 미간에 붙여 표로 삼고 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.
[신] 6:9	또 네 집 문설주와 바깥 문에 기록할지니라 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

We must teach our children clearly What is right and what is wrong; Live before them an example- Godly, righteous, pure, and strong. To teach your children well, let God teach you.

녀들을 잘 가르쳐야 한다네 무엇이 옳고 무엇이 그른가를 경건하고, 올바르고, 순수하고, 강한 모습으로 그들에게 본보기 되는 삶을 살아야 한다네 자녀들을 잘 가르치려면, 먼저 하나님의 가르침을 받아야 한다.
