Uplands-Year 9 MYP Community Project.

The International School of Penang (Uplands) are almost to the exciting “Taking Action” phase of our Year 9 MYP Community Project. Our 13 groups are finalizing all the planning and preparations next week. Then, over the following 2 weeks, groups will Take Action to offer direct service, raise awareness, raise funds, and/or advocate for a cause and community they have gained a great deal of expertise about over the last 5 weeks.  

Some students will be going off campus to work directly with organizations and groups within our larger Penang community. Many students will work within our Uplands community to aid their cause. Our campus will be a-buzz with Year 9s engaging with complex real-world issues in an effort “to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect” (ibo.org). These public efforts fit directly into the Uplands’ mission of “encouraging all school members to be active learners and engage with the local and wider community.” Have a look at some of their posters, like and share!
