  1. Verse of the Day

  For if you live according to the 1)sinful nature, you will die; but 2)if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds

of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.   —Romans 8:13-14

  여러분이 육신을 따라 살면, 죽을 것입니다. 그러나 여러분이 성령으로 몸의 행실을 죽이면, 살 것입니다. 하나님의 영으로 인도함을 받는 사람은, 누구나 다 하나님의 자녀입니다.   —로마서 8:13-14

  ▶ Words & Phrases

  1) sinful nature (= human nature = flesh = body) : 육신/육(flesh), 죄의 본성

    * nature : 하나님의 은총을 입지 못한 정신 상태

    - Question: "What is the sin nature?"
Answer: The sin nature is that principle in man that makes him rebellious against God. When we speak of the sin nature, we refer to the fact that we have a natural inclination to sin; given the choice to do God’s will or our own, we will naturally choose to do our own thing.

  2) if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body

   = if you put the misdeeds of the body to death by the Spirit

      - put A to death : A를 죽이다

      - misdeed : 나쁜 짓, 비행; 범죄 행위

       * the misdeeds of the body (=sinful actions = the deeds of your sinful nature = the deeds of the body)  

         육신의 행실, 몸의 행실, 욕심대로 살고 싶은 욕망

  2. Thoughts on Today's Verse

   Sometimes it's a battle. Sometimes it's a war. Without the power of the Spirit, 1)our willpower would eventually

give out and 3)our ending would be more distant from our Target than our beginning. But because of the Spirit's

power, 3)our losses can be overcome and 4)our progress to our Goal is assured. (2 Corinthians 3:17-18)

  때때로 전투입니다. 어떨 때는 전쟁입니다. 성령의 도우심 없이 우리 의지력만 가지고는 결국 포기해버릴지도, 또한 우리의 결말은 처음 가졌던 거룩한 목표에서 많이 벗어난 결과를 맞이하게 될 지도 모릅니다. 하지만 성령의 능력으로 인하여, 우리의 손실을 극복하고 하나님께로 향해 확실히 전진할 수 있을 것입니다. (고린도후서 3:17-18)

  1) our willpower would eventually give out

    - willpower(will power) : 의지력, 자제력

    - give out : 기진맥진하다, 힘이 다 빠지다, [물자·능력 등이] 동나다, 바닥이 나다; [기능이] 정지하다, 멈추다

  2) our ending(우리의 결말/결과) ↔ our beginning(우리의 시작)

  3) our losses can be overcome →(능동태) we can overcome our losses

    * overcome - overcame - overcome (극복하다)

  4) our progress to our Goal is assured →(능동태) we assure our progress to our Goal

    * assure [əʃúər] :  (종종 수동태) [남에게] [사물을] 보증하다

  3. My Prayer

   Forgive me, Father, for the times when I've 1)let my flesh win out over the call of your Spirit. Thank you for

2)cleansing me with the Spirit's holy fire and 3)sanctifying me and 4)drawing me onward to be more like my

Savior. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

  아버지, 제 육체가 당신의 영의 부르심을 짓눌러 이기도록 내버려 두었던 시간들을 용서해주십시오. 성령의 거룩한 불로 저를 정결하게 하시고 거룩하게 하셔서 제 구원자이신 예수님과 닮아가도록 이끌어 주시니 감사를 드립니다. 예수님 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.
