10 Reasons Why You Should Believe that Cell Phones and Cancer Are Connected, or “I Am On The Fence, Tell Me Something That Will Convince Me”
In addition to what we have already discussed above, let us look at ten reasons why you should at least consider taking some actions to protect yourself :
1. Cellular Damage: T-Mobile conducted an independent study to review research on the risks of radiofrequency from wireless devices. Their conclusion:
“On the cellular level, a multitude of studies found the type of damage from high frequency electromagnetic fields which is important for cancer initiation and cancer promotion.”
2. Significantly Increased Risk of Glioma: A US $25 Million international level glioma study sponsored by Interphone was recently published in the International Journal of Epidemiology
In the same study, it was found that ““tumors were more likely to occur on the side of the head most used for calling”.
David Carpenter, MD MPH, the co-editor of this Bioinitiative Report, has some sound advice for all:
“While this study is not perfect, the risks documented in it must be taken seriously as a warning to limit cell phone use, to restrict the use of cell phones, especially by children, and to call on manufacturers for redesign of cell phones and PDAs. It should also serve as a warning to governments that the deployment of new wireless technologies may bring risks to the public that are widespread, involuntary and increase long-term health care costs.”
3. Seven Scientists Review 23 Studies and Conclude ….: Seven prominent scientists got together to review 23 epidemiological studies that link cell phone radiation and cancer. The conclusions:
a. While there are obvious data variations, there is clear “harmful association” between cell phones and cancer.
b. The lower quality studies that showed data variations and “failed to meet scientific best practices, were primarily industry funded.”
4. Meningioma: Researchers in Sweden conducted a two-year study on the incidence of adult brain tumors
5. Thyroid Cancer: Israeli scientists have found changes in thyroid cells
6. Melanoma Risk: In 2013, the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority reported that there was no evidence pointing to electromagnetic radiation being a health hazard. However, independent researchers have demonstrated a strong correlation between increased incidence of head melanom
7. Oral (Parotid Gland) Tumors: An Israeli study on 460 cases of parotid gland tumors found the following: “Based on the largest number of benign PGT patients reported to date, our results suggest an association between cellular phone use and PGTs [parotid gland tumors].” The parotid is the salivary gland near the cheek where many users hold their cell phone.
An analysis of the National Cancer Registry in Israel over a 36-year period found, “the total number of parotid gland cancers in Israel increased 4-fold from 1970 to 2006, whereas other major salivary gland cancers remained stable”.
8. Leukemia: In a report covering over a dozen studies, Dr. Neil Cherry from Lincoln University in Canterbury, New Zealand demonstrated that radiation from cell phone, TV and radio towers, are connected with cancers, especially brain cancer and leukemia.
9. Multifocal Breast Cancer: In a case study publication, researchers and surgeons at Breastlink and the University of California in IrvineThey developed tumors in the areas directly under where they would keep their phones.
10. Diverse Cancerous Tumors: A Brazilian Study showed that “more than 81 percent of people who die in Belo Horizonte by specific types of cancer live less than 500 meters away from the 300 identified cell phone antennas in the city“. The cancers involved were extremely diverse affecting the prostate, breast, lung, kidneys and liver.
There are many more studies that we could have abstracted here, but the goal was to convincingly illustrate rather than be comprehensive.

There is now 'clear evidence' that cell phone radiation can cause cancers of the heart, brain and adrenal glands, a landmark National Institutes of Health (NIH) study warns.
A final report, released today, confirms the preliminary findings that were released in 2016 after scientists were alarmed by early indications that cell radiation may be carcinogenic.
Although the tests were done on rodents at levels much higher than humans are currently exposed to, the link between cell phones and cancer in male rats was undeniable.
For female rats and mice of both sexes, the evidence was less clear as to whether cancers observed were associated with signal exposure.
Still, scientists warn that the new research suggests that men in particular should take precautions to minimize the exposure of sensitive areas to cell phone radiation.

Senior scientist Dr John Bucher at the National Toxicology Program (NTP) in Durham, North Carolina said: 'The exposures used in the studies cannot be compared directly to the exposure that humans experience when using a cell phone.
'In our studies, rats and mice received radio frequency radiation (RFR) across their whole bodies.
'By contrast, people are mostly exposed in specific local tissues close to where they hold the phone.
'In addition, the exposure levels and durations in our studies were greater than what people experience.'
The finding was the result of a $30 million 10-year study to assess the health effects in animals exposed to RFR with modulations used in 2G and 3G cell phones.
The final reports represent the consensus of NTP and a panel of external scientific experts who reviewed the studies in March after draft reports were issued in February.
Dr Bucher explained: 'Cell phones utilize a specific type of radio waves, or radio frequency radiation (RFR), to transmit between the devices and the network.
'Exposure of people to RFR occurs primarily through use of cell phones and other wireless devices.'
The newly-published study focused on 2G and 3G technology. Now, cell service companies have moved on up to 4G, LTE and are rolling out 5G.
Though newer phones are equipped to communicate through these frequencies, the researchers say the new study's finding's still shed worrying light on what our technologies do to our bodies.
'While newer technologies have continued to evolve, it is important to note that these technologies have not completely replaced the older technologies,' said Dr Bucher.
'In fact, today's phones are very complex in that they contain several antennas, for Wi-Fi, GPS, 2G/3G bands, etc. The results of these studies remain relevant to current exposures, although the power levels of the exposures were much higher than typical patterns of human use.'
The lowest exposure level used in the studies was equal to the maximum local tissue exposure currently allowed for mobile phone users but this power level rarely occurs with typical use.
The highest exposure level in the studies was four times higher than the maximum power level permitted in our cell phones.
Dr Bucher, his team, and outside experts that they consulted about the study agree that this report represents the most solid evidence to-date that the link between cell phone radiation and the tumors they saw in rats is real.
'A major strength of our studies is that we were able to control exactly how much radio frequency radiation the animals received - something that's not possible when studying human cell phone use, which has often relied on questionnaires,' said Dr Bucher.
Exposure to RFR began in the womb for rats and at five to six weeks old for mice, and continued for up to two years, or most of their natural lifetime.
The RFR exposure was intermittent, 10 minutes on and 10 minutes off, totalling about nine hours each day.
RFR levels ranged from 1.5 to 6 watts per kilogram in rats, and 2.5 to 10 watts per kilogram in mice.
These studies did not investigate the types of RFR used for Wi-Fi or 5G networks, which may have very different health effects.
Future studies will focus on developing measurable physical indicators, or biomarkers, of potential effects from RFR.
These may include changes in metrics like DNA damage in exposed tissues, which can be detected much sooner than cancer.
'This animal evidence, together with the extensive human evidence, coupled with the rising incidence of brain cancers in young people in the US, conclusively confirms that radio frequency radiation is a Category 1 human carcinogen,' said Dr Anthony Miller, a University of Toronto Dalla Lana School of Public Health Professor Emeritus.

The narrow conclusion of a 10-year study is that high levels of radio frequency radiation can possibly cause heart tumors in male rats
After more than 10 years of research, the US government's National Toxicology Program (NTP) has released its final report into the effects of radio frequency radiation (RFR), like that emitted by cell phones, on rats and mice. The results suggest that high levels of RFR exposure can cause some cancers in the animals, however the conclusions have been labeled as "weak" and impossible to equate to humans.
The study, commissioned well over a decade ago and costing $US30 million, concluded that exposure to high levels of RFR could be associated with "clear evidence" of heart tumors in male rats. The report also concluded there was "some evidence" of RFR causing tumors in the brains and adrenal glands of male rats. This incredibly narrow conclusion also notes that the evidence is unclear as to whether there is an association between these cancers and RFR in female rats, or mice in general.
So what does all this mean to the average person walking down the street with an iPhone to their ear? Virtually nothing.
The study concentrated on RFR frequencies used by 2G and 3G mobile phones. While 2G networks are still prevalent in Africa and South America, most phones in the US, Asia and Europe utilize 3G and 4G technology. Newer technologies often employ higher frequencies than the primary 900 megahertz frequency used by 2G technology. The upcoming 5G generation in particular focuses on a higher frequency band than any previous iteration, and there is a suggestion
Michael Wyde, lead toxicologist on the NTP studies, cannot say whether 5G technologies would be more or less safe than the RFR frequencies examined in this study, but he does clearly note that its effects may be significantly different from what this research investigated.
"5G is an emerging technology that hasn't really been defined yet," says Wyde. "From what we currently understand, it likely differs dramatically from what we studied."
Other than the fact that the technology the study focused on has already become outdated, the exposure levels the animals were subjected to could not at all be compared to what a human is normally subjected to. The highest exposure level in the research was around four times higher than the maximum legal limit, and the animals received radiation across their entire body. John Bucher, a senior scientist working on the NTP project, openly admits that this kind of RFR exposure is not at all comparable to human cell phone use.
"The exposures used in the studies cannot be compared directly to the exposure that humans experience when using a cell phone," says Bucher.
Kevin McConway, from Open University, says the research tells us nothing about the risk of phone use in humans, and even the evidence that RFR causes tumors in rats is "pretty weak." So what does this study tell us then?
"Well, it establishes that, under certain conditions radiation of the same kind as produced by some mobile phones, but generally much stronger and much longer lasting, can lead to an increase in a certain type of tumor in certain rats," says McConway

The truth is that cell phones are no more or less safe than they were yesterday, and over a decade of relatively inconclusive research
Alongside the cancer risk only being clearly identified in male rats, and not females, those male rats exposed to RFR strangely displayed, on average, longer lifespans. This was hypothesized to be explained by an associated decrease in chronic kidney problems observed in the exposed male rats. So high levels of RFR exposure can decrease the chances of chronic kidney problems? No one is seriously suggesting that, just like no one can confidently claim that cell phones cause cancer.
