스티브는 그냥 보통사람이었습니다.

Steve was just an ordinary guy.

그는 내가 오래 전에 출석했던 교회에서 조용히 섬기던 사람이었습니다.

He quietly served in a church I attended years ago.

그는 성찬준비를 도왔고, 겨울에는 보도 위의 눈을 치웠고,

여름에는 잔디를 깎았습니다.

He helped prepare communion,

shoveled the church sidewalks in the winter,

and mowed the lawn in the summer.

 집에 아버지가 없는 십대 남자 아이들과 함께 시간을 보냈습니다.

He spent time with teenage boys who had no fathers in the home.

그가 하나님이 얼마나 그에게 좋으신 분인지에 대해

그의 조용한 표현 방법으로 이야기하는 것을 나는 교회에서 자주 들었습니다.

I often heard him telling people at church in his quiet way

how good the Lord was to him.

기도모임에서는 그는 자기 자신에 대해서는 많이 말하지 않았지만,

그는 예수님의 용서와 사랑에 대해 전도하고 있는 사람들을 위해

우리에게 기도 요청을 하고는 했습니다.

During prayer meeting he didn't talk much about himself

but would ask us to pray for those he was telling

about Jesus' forgiveness and love.

요한복음 10장에 있는 세례 요한에 관한 구절은 스티브를 생각나게 합니다.

A verse in John 10 about John the Baptist

makes me think of Steve.

사람들은 그에 대해 “요한은 아무 표적도 행치 아니하였으나

요한이 이 사람(예수님)을 가리켜 말한 것은 다 참이라”(41절)라고 하였습니다.

People said of him:

"John performed no sign,

but all the things that John spoke

about this Man [Jesus] were true".

요한은 예수님이 하셨던 것 같이 기적을 행하지는 않았습니다.

John didn't perform miracles as Jesus did.

그는 자신에 대해서는 말하지 않았고,

“빛에 대하여 증거하고 모든 사람으로 자기를 인하여 믿게 하려고”(1:7) 왔습니다.

He didn't talk about himself but came to

"bear witness of the Light,

that all through him might believe".

그는 예수님에 대해,

“보라

세상 죄를 지고 가는 하나님의 어린 양이로다”(1:29)라고 말했습니다.

He said of Jesus,

"Behold!

The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!".

나의 친구 스티브도 그 빛에 대한 증인이었습니다.

My friend Steve bore witness of that Light as well.

예수님을 따르는 우리의 목표도 같은 일, 즉 “빛에 대하여 증거하는 일”입니다.

Our aim, as followers of Jesus,

is to do the same-to "bear witness of the Light."

우리는 맡겨진 세상의 한 구석에서 하나님을 섬기는 그냥 보통사람들입니다.

We're just ordinary people,

serving God in our little corner of the world.

우리의 조용한 행동과 말로 다른 사람들을 그 빛으로 향하게 합시다!

With our quiet deeds and words,

John 요한복음 10:31-42  

[요] 10:31	유대인들이 다시 돌을 들어 치려 하거늘 Again the Jews picked up stones to stone him,
[요] 10:32	예수께서 대답하시되 내가 아버지로 말미암아 여러 가지 선한 일로 너희에게 보였거늘 그 중에 어떤 일로 나를 돌로 치려 하느냐 but Jesus said to them, "I have shown you many great miracles from the Father.  For which of these do you stone me?"
[요] 10:33	유대인들이 대답하되 선한 일로 말미암아 우리가 너를 돌로 치려는 것이 아니라 신성모독으로 인함이니 네가 사람이 되어 자칭 하나님이라 함이로라 "We are not stoning you for any of these," replied the Jews, "but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God."
[요] 10:34	예수께서 이르시되 너희 율법에 기록된 바 내가 너희를 신이라 하였노라 하지 아니하였느냐 Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, 'I have said you are gods'?
[요] 10:35	성경은 폐하지 못하나니 하나님의 말씀을 받은 사람들을 신이라 하셨거든 If he called them 'gods,' to whom the word of God came- -and the Scripture cannot be broken--
[요] 10:36	하물며 아버지께서 거룩하게 하사 세상에 보내신 자가 나는 하나님의 아들이라 하는 것으로 너희가 어찌 신성모독이라 하느냐 what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, 'I am God's Son'?
[요] 10:37	만일 내가 내 아버지의 일을 행하지 아니하거든 나를 믿지 말려니와 Do not believe me unless I do what my Father does.
[요] 10:38	내가 행하거든 나를 믿지 아니할지라도 그 일은 믿으라 그러면 너희가 아버지께서 내 안에 계시고 내가 아버지 안에 있음을 깨달아 알리라 하시니 But if I do it, even though you do not believe me, believe the miracles, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father."
[요] 10:39	그들이 다시 예수를 잡고자 하였으나 그 손에서 벗어나 나가시니라 Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp.
[요] 10:40	다시 요단 강 저편 요한이 처음으로 세례 베풀던 곳에 가사 거기 거하시니 Then Jesus went back across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing in the early days. Here he stayed
[요] 10:41	많은 사람이 왔다가 말하되 요한은 아무 표적도 행하지 아니하였으나 요한이 이 사람을 가리켜 말한 것은 다 참이라 하더라 and many people came to him. They said, "Though John never performed a miraculous sign, all that John said about this man was true."

그리하여 거기서 많은 사람이 예수를 믿으니라

          And in that place many believed in Jesus.

Just what do Christians look like? What sets their lives apart? They're ordinary people Who love God from the heart. Christians are ordinary people who are committed to the extraordinary person of Christ.

그리스도인은 어떻게 생겼을까? 무엇이 그들의 삶을 구별되게 할까? 그들은  진심으로 하나님을 사랑하는 보통사람들이라네 그리스도인은  예수님의 특별한 사람이 되기로 헌신한 보통사람들이다.
