새비지 로즈 (The Savage Rose)는 스웨덴의 난민촌에서 태어나고 덴미크에서 성장한 토마스 코펠이 동생인 아너스 코펠과 여동생인 론 코펠(Lone Koppel), 그리고 훗날 자신의 부인이 되는 애니세트 코펠(본명: Annisette Hansen) 등과 함께 1967년 1월 1일에 결성한 밴드이다.

결성 이듬해인 1968년에 데뷔 음반 <Savage Rose>를 발표한 새비지 로즈는 수도인 코펜하겐에 위치하고 있으며 덴마크에서
가장 큰 놀이공원인 티볼리(Tivoli) 공원의 잔디밭에서 데뷔 무대를 가졌으며, 1969년에는 미국에서 가장 작은 주인 로드 아일랜드 주의 뉴포트(Newport) 시에서 개최된
뉴 포트 재즈 페스티벌에 참여하여 자신들의 이름을 알리기도 했다.

그리고 페스티벌 참여 이후 덴마크를 중심으로 활동하며 사이키델릭 록계를 선도했던 새비지 로즈는 1972년에 국내에서 가장 인지도가 높은 음반이며 밴드 최고작 중 하나인 'Wild Child'를 발표하게 된다.

음반에 수록된 곡들 중에서 특히 타이틀 곡인 'Wild Child'는 밴드 결성 날짜를 정확하게 기억하는 몇 안되는 밴드 중 하나인
새비지 로즈가 자신들의 홈 페이지에서 소개하고 있는 누군가의 평 처럼 대중 음악 사상 가장 독특하고 강력한 보컬리스트인 애니세트 코펠을 중심으로 대단히 감동적인 음악을 들려 주고 있다. 거칠고 진한 호소력이 그녀의 목소리에서 부터 시작되고 있는 것이다.
