Certificate III in Clothing Production enables you to develop an awareness and understanding of production operations in the clothing industry.
You will develop a knowledge of fabrics used, how to communicate effectively and provide a safe working environment within the workplace.
Skills taught cover aspects of the production area from garment marker making and cutting, to garment assembly and quality awareness.
This course is designed for non-year 12 students to complete the pre-requisites for entry into Certificate IV in Clothing Production.
The course is to be delivered either on campus at Box Hill Institute in a simulated workplace environment or on-site at the workplace. It may be conducted in a large-scale production or in a small business situation.
This course is currently under reveiw and may change in structure.
This course is also available to International Students.
Certificate III in Clothing Production is awarded on the basis of demonstrated competencies in five units.
Completion of VCE 1 and 2 is desirable. You may be returning to study or a trainee with a clothing manufacturer.
Selection will be based on an interview and an assessment session (spatial aptitude, drawing, literacy and numeracy tests) as well as presentation of folio and garments.
The folio should include sketches/drawings of design work. A visual diary preferably using a variety of media is desirable.
The garment should demonstrate an ability to work creatively with pattern, fabrics, embellishment and construction techniques.
Interviews are conducted in late November for commencement in February. May appointments are for mid year entry.
Full-time - six months
Part-time study is available during the day Monday to Thursday and in the evening Monday-Thursday 6.00 - 10.00p.m.

Upon completion of Certificate III in Clothing Production you will be able to progress to the Diploma of Textiles Clothing and Footwear, (of which Certificate IV in Clothing Production is the first year).
Your qualifications will be recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
This course satisfies the needs of the Clothing Industry and is may be undertaken as a traineeship.

Develop an awareness of safe work practices within the clothing industry.
Develop skills to communicate effectively using Microsoft Word and email.
LMTPRCL-02CA (60 hours)
Enables the participant to cut work in preparation for garment assembly using hand or blade cutting methods. Competence must be demonstrated in working independently for all given cutting tasks.
Develop skills to communicate effectively as a team member within the cutting area of the workplace.
Develop an understanding of properties and characteristics of fabrics used and become aware of mandatory labelling laws.
LMTPRCL-05BA (90 hours)
This unit explores the skills and knowledge required to produce markers as part of the garment production process. It involves the use of all types of patterns, fabrics and lays.
This unit is an introduction to the basic skills and knowledge required to perform various mathematical processes in the T.C.F. Industry.
This unit is an introduction to computers and is a pre-requisite for subsequent studies involving computer programs used in the T.C.F. industries.

Develop basic skills to competently use industrial sewing machines to produce various sewing tasks, using
up-to-date industrial manufacturing techniques.
This module provides training in the construction of whole garments using a variety of fabrics and machine types.
Students are taught to identify fibres used in fabrics and the care and labelling required for a given garment
An introduction to the different needle/thread and stitch types for a variety of fabrics used in garment assembly.
Develop skills to communicate effectively within the production area of the workplace.
