Integrated Air Defence System
The Ground-Based Air Defence (GBAD) Mission presents Armed Forces with different aerial challenges, from drones to Tactical Ballistic Missiles. Air Defence Systems are usually made by different manufacturers and have a low level of connectivity and interoperability.
In the era of "software-based" Integrated Air and Missile Defence, a solution that can seamlessly integrate various sensors and battle management systems with high-performance Interceptors, tailored to the customer's needs, can ensure not only today's performance but future performance against evolving threats as well.
The BARAK MX, IAI’s cutting-edge integrated air defence system, is a fully network-centric solution, featuring an open system architecture and modular design, seamlessly integrating various sensors, battle management, and interceptors into a unified system. The unique connectivity of BARAK MX allows for the expansion of defended areas by interconnecting multiple units, enabling fire units to rely on each other's assets to engage targets beyond the individual reach of each unit. It also enables the integration of Ground-Based Air Defences (GBAD) and Naval Air defences under a joint multi-layered network, enhancing them and denying enemy access or missile attacks.
Unlike air-to-air missiles converted to surface-to-air use, the BARAK MX interceptors were originally designed as surface-to-air missiles with an optimal size and diameter, which is larger than the airborne restricted air-to-air missiles.
That fact alone gives BARAK MX the upper edge with:
• Larger Active RF Seeker antenna
• Larger warhead with higher lethality
• Energetic dual pulse rocket motor for the best end-game maneuverability
The core of the BARAK MX system:
3 Interceptors for an Integrated Air Defence System
The BARAK MX system incorporates a range of advanced interceptor missiles that are designed to effectively counter various air and missile threats. These interceptors are the key component of the system's multi-layer defence capabilities.
One of the interceptors used in the BARAK MX system is the Barak ER (Extended Range) 150Km Dual pulse rocket motor + Booster missile. It is a surface-to-air missile with an extended engagement range, making it suitable for countering medium to long-range threats. The Barak ER interceptor utilizes advanced active radar guidance and a powerful rocket motor to intercept and destroy incoming targets with exceptional precision.
In addition to the Barak ER, the BARAK MX system also incorporates the Barak MR (Medium Range) 35Km Single pulse rocket motor missile. This missile is designed to engage and destroy short to medium-range threats, providing an additional layer of defence. The Barak MR interceptor features a versatile dual-missile launcher that can launch multiple missiles simultaneously, enhancing its ability to engage multiple targets simultaneously.
The third interceptor is the Barak LR (long range) 70Km Dual pulse rocket motor providing an additional layer of defence against incoming threats. It is designed to work in conjunction with other defence systems to ensure comprehensive protection. The system is equipped with advanced technology and precision capabilities to accurately intercept and destroy targets, making it a crucial component in safeguarding against ballistic missiles , cruise missile, and other aerial threats.
Real-Time Integrated Air Defence System
The BARAK MX system's interceptors are equipped with advanced target acquisition and tracking systems, allowing them to effectively track and engage multiple targets simultaneously. The system's integrated command and control network provides real-time situational awareness and coordination, enabling efficient engagement of threats across the entire operational area.
What sets the BARAK MX system apart from other integrated air defence systems is its ability to seamlessly integrate with other defence systems, creating a comprehensive and layered defence capability. The system can be integrated with various sensors, radars, and command and control networks, allowing for effective coordination and information sharing between different air defence systems.
• BARAK ER – 150Km Dual pulse rocket motor + Booster.
• BARAK LR – 70Km Dual pulse rocket motor
• BARAK MR – 35Km Single pulse rocket motor
All the interceptors share many components and can engage airborne threats from 2Km to 150Km.
IAI – A World Leader in Air Defence
IAI (Israel Aerospace Industries) is the National House of Israel's Strategic Missile Defence System, the "Arrow" Anti Ballistic Missile Defence System, protecting Israel's skies and chosen by Germany as part of the European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI).
Built on IAI's years of experience with multi-layer air & missile defence systems, the BARAK MX presents a medium to extended-range layer sold and operational across 4 continents.
IAI is not only a pioneer of Integrated Air and Missile Defence Systems, but Offensive Systems as well. The BARAK MX air defence system is developed in close cooperation with in-house Strike Systems and Loitering Munitions developers, leveraging IAI's industry-leading expertise in the Offensive Domain to effectively counter enemy threats.
