50) April 6-7 (Sat): Montpellier - Educational city in Southern France


    We departed from the medieval fortress-like town of Carcassonne (6,309 km) at 4:45 PM. Today, we decided to rest in Montpellier, France's eighth largest city with a population of 230,000 and the eighth largest city in France with a high level of education. We passed through the medieval town of Narbonne and the coastal town of Sète, the starting point of the Canal du Midi, before arriving in Montpellier, located on the Mediterranean coast, just after 7 PM.
Because I arrived a bit late, finding a hotel was difficult. After wandering around the old town several times, I managed to secure two rooms at the Palais Hotel, a two-star hotel near the Arc de Triomphe. Despite being a two-star hotel, the price was comparable to a four-star hotel. Apparently, this was due to the university festival tomorrow. I set out to find the restaurant the hotel had recommended.

  중세 견고한 성채를 갖춘 까르까송 마을(6,309Km)을  오후 4시 45분에 출발했다. 오늘은 인구 23만의 프랑스 8번째로 큰 교육도시 Montpellier에서 쉬기로 하였다.
중세 도시 Narbonne와 해변의 도시이며 Midi 운하의 시발점인 Sete를 거쳐 지중해안에 잇는 몽펠리에에는 오후 7가 지나 도착하였다.
좀 늦게 도착하였기에 호텔 구하기가 어려워 구시가지를 몇번 돌다가 개선문 근처에 있는 2  star급 Palais Hotel에서 방 2개를 간신히 구했다. 2성급이지만 값은 4성급과 비슷한 요금이다. 내일 대학 축제가 있어서 그런 모양이다.
호텔에서 안내해준 식당을 찾어 나섰다.

 It was hard to find because there were so many alleys. There were some young college students there, so I asked them. They kindly pointed me in the right direction. We took a commemorative photo together.

This is the restaurant we were looking for. As expected, it's delicious. Lots of people were dining there. We ordered beef and wine.

                                    On the morning of the 7th, we walked to Peyrou Park, seeing the Arc de Triomphe.

                               The back is Chateau d'Eau (water collection area).  뒷 편은 Chateau d'Eau(집수장)이다.

                        The African indigenous dances of the young people and black women attending the festival are unique.
                         축제에 참석한 젊은이들, 훅인 여성들의 아프리카 원주민 춤이 이색적이다.

I left at 11 a.m. and set off to explore the various towns of Provence. I was delighted to meet the late Impressionist masters van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, and Paul Cézanne. And what's more, seeing Les Demoiselles d'Arles and simply being in this region of art and culture was a joy.


오전 11시 이곳을 떠나 프로방스 지방의 여러 도시를 탐방하러 떠났다.
후기 인상파의 거장 반 고흐, 폴 고갱 그리고 폴 세잔느를 만날 수 있어서 흐믓한 마음이다. 그뿐인가 아르르의 여인도 보고 예술과 문화의 지방에 가는 것만으로도 행복하다.
