UPDATE: Encore performances composed by YC : April 8, 2021 (his first Mozart 22) & May 18, 2022 (Tomato Hall Recital). The encore on April 14, 2021 is Rachmaninoff's 'Lilac'. Unfortunately, there are no videos for the songs composed by YC. (According to Sohn, YC performed songs he composed on days only when Sohn was away, so Sohn has never heard the songs either.) This video does not include all of his past performance videos, so I've also created playlists from the early days up to the 2022 Cliburn. Check them out! The purpose of creating the playlists is to allow more people to easily enjoy YC's past performances without having to search. Enjoy young YC’s amazing performances! ----- I know a photographer who is crazy about magic hour. Photographers call the time between the sun setting and the stars rising the magic hour, and it is said to be the most beautiful time when red, gold, and blue colors spread across the sky. His words, “The most beautiful time before the stars rise,” were the inspiration for the title of this video. I got to know YCL and joined the club at the end of last year. I knew the names of great musicians, but I didn't usually listen to classical music, so I had to study a lot. First I had to figure out why Rach3 is difficult. (Please don't laugh) - cuz he seemed to play Rach3 without much effort. Following in the footsteps of all newbies, I started looking up his old videos, and this video is a trace of that study. I also don't like excerpting his music. All of his performances are truly worth listening to, no matter what age he was playing them at. For example, the Sinfonias he played when he was 15 is truly beautiful. There are some performances not included here, so I made a playlist. The reason for making this video was not only to show a montage of his musical journey, but also to show his past performances to more people.

Wow! What a complete chronicle of Yunchan's incredible years and journey that you have beautifully created for him and us! You did a great job! I really love the way you tell his astonishing story with all the fine details of concerts, events, timelines, articles, and interviews in both English and Korean. Your awesome video helps me understand his philosophy and the reasons behind his decisions when selecting his repertoire or living his life so much better. I've been watching this again and thinking through the many hours of performances I have watched/or listened to featuring the modern day phenomenon that is Yunchan Lim in the past four years. Reading hundreds of comments and listening to interviews and reviews has allowed me to conclude that his enormous appeal arises from his incredible emotional and musical intelligence quotas. They are part of his genius and his motor and technical skills and dedicated interest and hard work add to that. He uses these abilities to a greater extent than many musicians, and he himself accredits his results to the compositions written by many very great musicians. In the music he plays he finds and explores not only the notes and directions inserted, but he follows and extrapolates the full gamut of their imaginations, human experiences and soul journeys revealed in their music by these great artists. He doesn't need to be an old soul, an alien being, or possessed. He just has to be himself and use his universe-gifted talents to lead us along with him on his journeys. I am aboard for as many of these as I can find. I love his humility and his stated appreciation of his family, teacher and friends. Thank you Yunchan, and Musik, Musik.
