download by yue 2005 05 31 | Fujiko Hemming was born in Berlin to a Russian-Swedish architect Gta Georgii-Hemming and a Japanese pianist Toako Otsuki.
Subsequently she won many prizes in several major domestic competitions such as the NHK-Mainichi Music Concour and the Bunka Radio Broadcasting Co. Music Prize.
She began her professional performance career immediately after graduating from TNUFM. Samson Fran輟is heard her playing during his visit to Japan, and praised her musicianship and interpretation of Chopin and Liszt.
At the age of 28, she went to Germany. Her distinctive performance during her course at the Berlin Institute of Music, led her onto a professional concert career in Europe after graduation. Hemming was praised by eminent musicians such as composer-conductor Bruno Maderna and pianists Shura Cherkassky and Paul Badura-Skoda - the latter who was her teacher and guardian while living in Vienna. She is still greatly proud of the fact that she was offered a soloist contract by Bruno Maderna, and was also supported by Herbert von Karajan and Leonard Bernstein who also showed a keen interest in her. Suddenly, after suffering a high fever, she lost her hearing just before a recital that was to put the final stamp on her ability as a top performer. She moved to Stockholm, gained a teaching qualification in order to continue having medical treatment there, and then continued performing at concerts throughout Europe.
Hemming's debut CD "La Campanella" was released on August 25, 1999 and sold over one million copies, an unusual phenomenon in the classical music scene.
As of today, 10 CDs had been released and all of them sold remarkable number of copies. Three of those ten CDs have received the Classical Album of the Year award at the Japan Gold Disc Award. Hemming is the first-ever classical artist who received the award three times.
Internationally, an audience of 3,000 people at Hemming's June 2001 recital filled New York's Carnegie Hall, and her performance stirred up them to frenzy. Speaking of her in the highest terms, people called it the most successful recital since Maria Callas. In 2002, Hemming has succeeded performances in the major cities all over the world including Paris, London, Milan, Vienna, Ludwigshafen, Prague,Stockholm, Dusseldorf, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York. In the autumn of 2004, she will release 3 CDs worldwide from the DECCA label. In the coming months, Hemming will perform another recital tour all over the world, and has been invited for 2004-2005 season programmes in Moscow (the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra), Brussels (the National Belgian Orchestra),Nice, Prague and Stockholm. |
