51) April 7 (Sat) Itinerary: Orange - See the greatness of ancient Rome 


    The first city we will visit in Provence starting today is Orange, which has Roman ruins.
We arrived here at 11:00 AM. It once flourished as a major center of the Roman Empire. Now, with a population of around 30,000, although a small rural village, its well-preserved condition earned it a UNESCO World Heritage Site designation.
The Provence region was conquered by Julius Caesar in the 1st century BC and developed under Emperor Augustus. Perhaps this is why, upon arriving here, the ancient theater remains unchanged from 2,000 years ago.

51)4월 7일(토) 여정: 오랑주(Orange)-고대 로마의 위대함을 볼 수 있다.


오늘부터 여행하는 프로방스 지방의 첫 번 째 도시는 로마 시대의 유적이  있는 Orange(오랑주)다.
이곳에 오전 11시 도착하였다. 일찍이 로마제국의 중요한 곳으로 번성했던 곳이다. 지금은 인구 3만명 정도가 있는
작은 시골 마을이지만 그 보존상태가 좋아서 유네스코 문화 유산으로 지정되었다.
프로방스 지방은 BC 1세기 줄리어스 씨저가 이곳을 정복하고 아우구스투스 황제에 의해 발전을 이룬 곳이다.
그레서 그런지 이곳에 도착하니 고대극장이 2000년전과 다름없는 모습으로 남아 있다.

고대 극장 앞에 주차하고 극장으로 들어가다. 

The wall, made of stacked megaliths, is 103 meters long and 36 meters high.
거석을 쌓아 올린 벽면은 길이가 103m, 높이가 36m에 이른다.

The statue erected above the central arcade is a majestic figure of Emperor Augustus.
중앙 아케이드 위에 세워져 있는 조각상은 아우구스투스 황재의 당당한모습이다.

Music performances and plays are held here.
이곳에서 음악 연주와 연극이 열리고 있다

프로방스의 온화하고 화사한 햇살 아래에서 사진을 찍다

Had lunch at the square bar. Coffee and bread cost 5.50 euros.
광장 Bar에서 점심을 먹다. 5.50유로의 커피와 빵을 들었다.

This triumphal arch was built to commemorate Julius Caesar's victories in Provence. The road on which it stands connects Arles and Lyon. While the southern portion is largely destroyed, the northern portion remains intact. It is sculpted with battle scenes honoring Caesar's achievements.

줄리어스 씨저가 프로방스에서 승리한 것을 기념하기 위해 만든 개선문.
문이 서 있는 길은 아르르와 리옹을 잇고 있다. 남쪽은 많이 파괴되어 있으나 북쪽은 온전한 상태이다.
씨저의 공적을 기리는 전투 장면이 조각되어있다.
