51) April 7 (Sat) Itinerary: Orange - See the greatness of ancient Rome
The first city we will visit in Provence starting today is Orange, which has Roman ruins. We arrived here at 11:00 AM. It once flourished as a major center of the Roman Empire. Now, with a population of around 30,000, although a small rural village, its well-preserved condition earned it a UNESCO World Heritage Site designation. The Provence region was conquered by Julius Caesar in the 1st century BC and developed under Emperor Augustus. Perhaps this is why, upon arriving here, the ancient theater remains unchanged from 2,000 years ago.
