오래 기다린 재회

 어렸을 때 내게 ‘왕자소년’이라는 이름의 멋진 콜리 개가 있었는데,

나는 그 개를 정말로 좋아했습니다.

As a boy, I had a collie named Prince Boy,

a great dog that I really loved.

그런데 어느 날 그 개가 사라졌습니다.

One day, he disappeared.

도둑을 맞았는지 혹은 단순히 도망친 것인지 알 도리가 없었지만,

나는 망연자실하여 개를 찾으러 모든 곳을 다 돌아다녔습니다.

I didn't know if he had been stolen or

if he had simply run away-but I was devastated.

I searched everywhere.

사실 내 어린 시절의 기억 중에는,

그 때 혹시라도 그 개를 찾을 수 있지 않을까 하는 희망을 갖고

큰 나무에 올라 주위를 둘러보던 일이 아직도 선명하게 남아있습니다.

In fact,

one of my earliest childhood memories is

of climbing a tall tree from which I could scan our neighborhood

in hopes of spotting him.

나는 사랑하는 그 개가 다시 집으로 돌아오기를 간절히 원했습니다.

I desperately wanted my beloved dog back.

몇 주 동안 계속해서 지켜보면서 왕자소년을 다시 볼 수 있게 되기를 바랐지만,

우리는 그 후 다시는 만나지 못했습니다.

For weeks,

I was always watching and hoping to see Prince Boy again.

But we were never reunited.

사랑하는 사람이 죽어 다시는 볼 수 없다고 생각될 때,

참으로 큰 상실감을 갖게 됩니다.

There's a much greater sense of loss

when we think we'll never again see a loved one who dies.

그러나 주님을 알고 사랑하는 사람들에게 죽음이란 일시적 이별일 뿐입니다.

But for those who know and love the Lord,

death's part-ing is only temporary.

언젠가 우리는 다시 만나 영원히 함께 있게 될 것입니다!

One day we will be reunited forever!

바울은 데살로니가 교인들에게

“그리스도 안에서 죽은 자들이 먼저 일어나고

그 후에 살아남은 자들도 그들과 함께 구름 속으로 끌어올려 공중에서 주를 영접하게 하시리니

그리하여 우리가 항상 주와 함께 있으리라”(살전 4:16-17)라고 확언하였습니다.

 Paul assured the Thessalonians,

"The dead in Christ will rise first.

 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together

 with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.

 And thus we shall always be with the Lord".

‘함께’와 ‘우리’라는 단어들이 비통한 마음에 평안을 줍니다.

The words that provide comfort

to the grieving heart are together and we.

재회에 대한 이 말씀은,

그리스도를 따르는 사람들은 영원한 이별을 경험할 필요가 전혀 없다는 뜻입니다.

These words of reunion indicate that followers of Christ

don't ever have to experience perma-nent separation.

우리에게 죽음이란 작별인사가 아니라 “나중에 다시 봅시다.”를 의미합니다.

1 Thess. 데살로니가전서 4:13-18  

[살전] 4:13	형제들아 자는 자들에 관하여는 너희가 알지 못함을 우리가 원하지 아니하노니 이는 소망 없는 다른 이와 같이 슬퍼하지 않게 하려 함이라 Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope.
[살전] 4:14	우리가 예수께서 죽으셨다가 다시 살아나심을 믿을진대 이와 같이 예수 안에서 자는 자들도 하나님이 그와 함께 데리고 오시리라 We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
[살전] 4:15	우리가 주의 말씀으로 너희에게 이것을 말하노니 주께서 강림하실 때까지 우리 살아 남아 있는 자도 자는 자보다 결코 앞서지 못하리라 According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.
[살전] 4:16	주께서 호령과 천사장의 소리와 하나님의 나팔 소리로 친히 하늘로부터 강림하시리니 그리스도 안에서 죽은 자들이 먼저 일어나고 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
[살전] 4:17	그 후에 우리 살아 남은 자들도 그들과 함께 구름 속으로 끌어 올려 공중에서 주를 영접하게 하시리니 그리하여 우리가 항상 주와 함께 있으리라 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.
[살전] 4:18	그러므로 이러한 말로 서로 위로하라 Therefore encourage each other with these words.

We'll be reunited one day With our loved ones who have died If they know the Lord as Savior- Then with Him we will abide. God's people never say goodbye for the last time.

우리는 예전에 죽었던 사랑하는 사람들과 언젠가 재회할 것이라네 그들이 주님을 구주로 알고 있다면 우리는 모두 주님과 함께 있을 것이라네 하나님의 백성들은 마지막 작별인사를 할 필요가 없다.
