“From morning till night [Paul] explained to them his message about the
Kingdom of God…
Some of them were convinced by his words, but others
would not believe.” (Acts 28:23b-24 GNT)
When you hear truth you do not remain the same. You are either
transformed or your heart grows calloused.
When the religious leaders
in Rome did not accept the message of the gospel, the Apostle Paul went
on to quote the prophet Isaiah: “‘This people’s minds are dull, and
they have stopped up their ears and closed their eyes.
* callous ; (of a part of the body) having an area of hardened skin.
made hard; hardened. insensitive; indifferent; unsympathetic:
* stopped up. obstructed - shut off to passage or view or hindered from action;
Otherwise, their
eyes would see, their ears would hear, their minds would understand,
and they would turn to me, says God, and I would heal them’” (Acts
28:27). This can apply to those //who hear and reject the gospel,
but it
can apply /to believers /as well.
There’s a promise in God’s Word that “if you wander /off the road…you
will hear his voice behind you saying,
‘Here is the road. Follow it’”
(Isaiah 30:21). But one of Satan’s devices is to have us put off what
we hear and feel from the Holy Spirit /so that, after a while, we don’t
hear it so clearly anymore. Let’s not risk [getting calloused in our
hearts]; instead, let’s ask God /for a fresh work of the Holy Spirit in
our lives /so that we can remain tender
and receive the truth of God’s
Word /with faith.
