일상적인 수하물 검색을 하고 있었습니다.

그러나 그 여행 가방에는 결코 평범하지 않은 것이 들어있었습니다.

It was just a routine baggage inspection,

but there was nothing ordinary about the contents of the suitcase.

그 가방을 검색하던 스위스 세관원은 피카소의 그림 원본 14장을 발견하였습니다.

The Swiss customs agent who examined it discovered

14 original drawings by Pablo Picasso.

한 권의 스케치북에 들어있던 그 그림들은 백오십만 달러의 가치가 있는 것으로 추정되었지만,

그 승객은 “신고할 것이 없습니다.”라고 세관에 대답했었습니다.

The artwork, which was contained in a sketchbook,

was estimated to be worth as much as $1.5 million,

yet the passenger indicated

"nothing to declare" to customs authorities.

어느 누구든 피카소의 스케치북을 옷가지 속에 끼워 넣고 총총 걸음으로 공항을 빠져 나가면서

걸리지 않기를 기대한다는 것은 생각하기도 어려운 일입니다.

It's hard to imagine anyone packing Picasso's sketchbook

between sweaters, trotting off to the airport,

and hoping it would remain a secret.

그 사람은 분명히 밀수를 하고 있었던 것입니다.

The man was obviously smuggling it.

우리 그리스도인들에게는 피카소 그림보다 훨씬 더 값진 신고해야 할 것이 있습니다!

We as Christians have something far more valuable

than a Picasso to declare!

그러나 우리는 그리스도 안에 있는 믿음의 보물을 주변 사람들과 나누는 대신

마음속에 담아 꼭 숨겨두고 있습니다.

Yet we sometimes keep the treasure of our faith in Christ locked

in our hearts instead of sharing it with those around us.

예수님은 우리에게 “너희는 세상의 빛이라”(마 5:14)라고 상기시켜 주셨습니다.

Jesus reminded us,

"You are the light of the world".

우리의 목적의 일부는 하나님의 영광을 드러냄으로써

세상 사람들이 하나님이 필요하다는 것을 깨닫게 해주는 것입니다.

Part of our purpose is to reflect God's glory

so that others will understand their need for Him.

예수님은 또한 우리가 빛을 발하여 세상 사람들이 우리의 착한 행실을 보고

하늘에 계신 아버지께 영광을 돌리게 하라고 우리에게 요구하십니다(16절).

He also calls us to let our light shine,

so that they see our good works and

glorify our Father in heaven.

그리스도를 믿는 우리의 믿음을 숨긴다면

우리는 영적인 밀수꾼이 될 위험을 안는 것입니다.

We risk becoming spiritual smugglers

when we hide our faith in Christ.

그러지 말고, “가방”을 열고 그 보물을 나누어서 우리 주님께 영광을 돌립시다.

Matthew 마태 5:13-16  

[마] 5:13	너희는 세상의 소금이니 소금이 만일 그 맛을 잃으면 무엇으로 짜게 하리요 후에는 아무 쓸 데 없어 다만 밖에 버려져 사람에게 밟힐 뿐이니라 "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.
[마] 5:14	너희는 세상의 빛이라 산 위에 있는 동네가 숨겨지지 못할 것이요 "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.
[마] 5:15	사람이 등불을 켜서 말 아래에 두지 아니하고 등경 위에 두나니 이러므로 집 안 모든 사람에게 비치느니라 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
[마] 5:16	이같이 너희 빛이 사람 앞에 비치게 하여 그들로 너희 착한 행실을 보고 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께 영광을 돌리게 하라 In the same way, l et your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

Lord, help me make my witness clear, And labor faithfully, So friends and neighbors turn to Christ Through what they hear from me. A word well chosen can open a heart to God.

오 주님, 내가 성실히 일하고 분명히 증언할 수 있도록 도와주소서 내가 하는 말을 듣고 친구와 이웃들이 그리스도께로 돌아오게 해주소서 잘 선택된 한 마디 말이 하나님께 마음을 열게 할 수 있다.
