52) April 7 (Sat) Itinerary: Avignon - A place that preserves the Second Vatican and medieval culture -

      We arrived at Avignon, an ancient city surrounded by medieval walls (6,652 km), at 4 p.m. We parked our car near the walls and entered the castle. It retained its medieval charm. It was lined with preserved buildings and narrow alleys.

중세의 성벽으로 둘러쌓인 고도 아비뇽에는 오후 4시에 도착했다.(6,652Km)

차를 성벽 주위의 한 곳에 주차하고 성으로 들어 갔다. 중세의 모습을 그대로

간직한 건물과 좁은 골목으로 이어 지고 있다.

                                                      Next to the square is the Vatican building.

During the Middle Ages, there was a time when the Pope presided in Avignon, not Rome. This event, known as the "Babylonian Captivity," was a power struggle between the Papacy and France. In 1309, when the Archbishop of Bordeaux, France, was elected Pope (Clement V), he yielded to pressure from the French king and the Papacy relocated there.

Over the next 68 years, seven popes were crowned here, and it replaced Rome as the center of Catholicism, at its peak of prosperity.

중세에 한때 교황이 로마가 아닌 아비뇽에서 집례한 적이 있었다.교황의 '바빌론 포로 시대'라고

할 수 있는 사건은 당시 교황청과 프랑스와의 세력 다툼으로 1309년 프랑스 보르도의 대사제가

교황(클레멘스 5세)으로 선출되었을 때 프랑스 왕의 압력에 굴복하여 교황청이 이곳으로 이주한다

이후 68년 동안 7명의 교황이 이곳에서 즉위하였으며 로마를 대신하여 이곳이 캐톨릭의 중심지로

최고의 번영을 누렸다.

The Palais des Pepes (Palace of the Popes) in Avignon, with its ornate façade, is recognized as one of the most aristocratic monuments of Gothic architecture in Europe.

It was already praised by architectural experts in the 1400s as the world's most beautiful and sturdy building. (Model of the Vatican on display)

아비뇽의 교황청(Le Palis des Pepes)은 화려한 외관을 가진 건축물로 유럽의 고딕

양식의 건물 중 가장 귀족적인 기념물로 인정받고 있다.

이미 1400년대의 건축 전문가로 부터 세계에서 가장 아름답고 견고한 건물로 찬사를  받고

After seven popes and 68 years of papal presidency, the papacy returned to Rome with the end of Urvan V. However, due to some forces opposing the return to Rome, the papacy continued to elect and preside there for 40 years, leading to the existence of two popes: the Roman pope and the Avignon pope.

However, in 1417, the Avignon Papacy ended when Pope Benedict XIII retired to the castle of Peniscola in Spain, where he spent the  rest of his life.

 7대 68년간 교황청으로서 집례한 교황은 Urvan 5세를 끝으로 로마 교황청으로 복귀한다. 그러나로마로 복귀한 것을 반대한 일부 세력에 의해 40년간 계속 이곳에서 교황을 선출하여 집례함에 따라

로마 교황과 아비뇽 교황 2명의 교황이 존재했다.

그러나 1417년 아비뇽 교황 Benoit 13세가 스페인 Peniscola성으로 은퇴하여 일생을 그곳에서보내면서 아비뇽 교황 시대는 끝났다.

Surrounded by a massive wall 50 meters high and 4 meters thick, the Vatican covers a total area of ​​15,000 square meters. It is a remarkably large building. The interior is completely empty, with statues and ornaments reportedly destroyed or lost during the French Revolution. Despite the empty building, photography inside is prohibited.

높이 50m,두께 4m의 거대한 벽으로 둘러싸인 교황청의 전체 면적은 1만 5,000평방 미터로 대단히 큰 건물이다. 내부는 텅텅 비어 있는데 성상과 장식물은 프랑스 혁명 때 파괴되거나

분실되었다고 한다. 텅빈 건물이지만 내부 촬영을 금지시켰다.

The Rhone River, the Pont d'Avignon, and vineyards, all seen from the Palais des Papes. It's said that the wine the popes drank in the past was made in this vineyard. I bought a bottle of wine and am currently keeping it for an after-party with the Duke.

교황청에서 내려다 보는 론강과아비뇽 다리, 그리고 포도밭.그 옛날 교황이 마신 포도주는 이 포도밭에서 만들엇다고 한다.

포도주 한병을 사서 정공과의 뒷풀이를 위해 현재 보관중이다. 

                              If you climb the hill next to the Vatican Palace, you will find a park built on a rock face.

                                                 교황청 궁전 옆의 언덕길을 올라 가면 암벽 위에 만들어 진 공원이 있다.

Pont Saint-Bédaise (aka Pont d'Avignon) is a bridge famous for the song "Let's dance on the Pont d'Avignon." How about a rumba?

셍 베대제 다리(일명 아비뇽다리) '아비뇽 다리에서 춤을 추자 춤을 추자....'라는 노래로 유명한 다리. 룸바는 어떨까?

This bridge was completed in the 12th century. Originally, it spanned 900 meters across the river, but repeated flooding of the Rhone reduced it to four bridges.    Only pillars remain.

이 다리는 12세기에 완공되었다. 원래는 강 맞은 편 까지 900m의 다리였지만 론강의 거듭된 범람으로 4개의 다리

기둥만 있다.

o depart, I had three people wait at the castle gate near the bridge. I circled the castle almost completely to find my car, which I parked there. Finally, I found it. So, at 7:10 PM, I left for Arles, where a group of handsome men and women were waiting.

이곳을 출발하기 위해 3사람을 다리에서 가까운 성문에 기다리게 하고 주차한 곳 까지 차를 찾을려고 성을 거의 한바퀴

돌아서 간신히 찾았다. 그래서 오후 7시 10분 멋있는 여성과 남성들이 기다리고 있는 Arles로 떠났다.
