On November 22nd, 2016, CARP Las Vegas hosted our first Interreligious
Conference for Peace on the UNLV campus. Participants from different faiths
gathered together to discuss the topic of “the Issue of Sexual Immorality.”
Representatives came from different faith groups at UNLV, including the
Christian groups DREAM and Oasis, and the Muslim Student Association. After a
presentation on some of the statistics related to sexual immorality in Las
Vegas, each faith group discussed what they see to be the issue and causes of
sexual immorality, and then one representative from each group presented their
findings. After all had presented groups, we chose the four biggest issues as a
large group. Then, we mixed all the different faith groups and made new groups
based on each issue in order to discuss possible solutions that we can seek to
those problems. Each group presented what they came up with, and made a plan to
meet again in the future to continue. It was a powerful experience to come
together as people of different faiths, yet who all love God, and care about issues
affecting youth today. We hope to hold more conferences like this in the
future.
