Have you ever traveled the Queen’s Road to Andong Hahoe Village?
It’s called Queen’s Road because Queen Elizabeth II of England once visited.

Do you know the Queen Elizabeth Memorial Hall?
It stands at the entrance of the village.

Was it Hahoe Village that saved itself or the Queen’s visit made it famous?

More and more people come to see her footsteps, even those who never knew Hahoe Village before.
They walk the Queen’s Road to the place where she left her footsteps.

Before exploring the village, they pause at the Memorial Hall and feel her grace.
They take photos by the tree she planted, while maybe even making kimchi for the memory.

Since her visit, Hahoe Village is no longer just a village — it’s the Queen’s Road, and the story of her visit lives on forever.

안동 하회마을을 가 보았는가

영국여왕 엘리자베스 2세가

하회마을을 다녀가고 나서부터

하회마을 가는 길을 퀸 로드라고 하지

엘리자베스 영국여왕 방문 기념 전시관을 아는가

하회마을 앞에 있지

하회마을이 하회마을을 살린 게 아니고

엘리자베스 영국여왕이 살린 것인가

엘리자베스 영국여왕의 발자취를 보러

하회마을을 찾는 이들이 늘어나고

하회마을을 모르던 이들도

엘리자베스 영국여왕이 찾은 곳이라 하여

퀸 로드를 따라

하회마을을 찾아서는

마을을 둘러보기도 전에

마을 앞 엘리자베스 영국여왕 방문 기념 전시관에 들러

성은에 감복부터 하지

엘리자베스 영국여왕이 방문할 때 심었다는 나무 앞에 서서

김치 하며 기념 촬영 빼놓지 않지

엘리자베스 영국여왕이 하회마을을 찾아준 다음부터

하회마을 가는 길은 없고

퀸 로드만 있지

하회마을에 가도

하회마을은 없고

엘리자베스 영국여왕 방문 기념 전시관만 있지

Appreciation Review 感想

The poem uses satire to point out how Hahoe Village’s identity has been overshadowed by Queen Elizabeth II’s visit.

By focusing on the "Queen’s Road" and the memorial hall, the poet shows how the village’s rich culture is now mainly remembered because of one event.

The question, “Was it Hahoe Village that saved itself, or the Queen’s visit made it famous?” highlights the irony that the village is now more known for the Queen's visit than its own history and culture.

This exaggeration makes us think about how outside attention can replace local traditions, turning a lively cultural place into a symbol of tourism and outside admiration.

Andong Hahoe Village (安東 河回마을) is a traditional folk village located in Pungcheon-myeon, Andong-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do. There are 11 buildings designated as cultural properties, including 2 treasures and 9 national folk cultural properties, and 2 national treasures. On July 31, 2010, at the 34th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee (WHC) held in Brasilia, Brazil, it was confirmed that it would be registered as a World Cultural Heritage along with Gyeongju Yangdong Village.
