고위공직자범죄수사처 수사2부(부장 김수환)는 18일 수도권 지역 한 지방법원의 김모(44) 부장판사에 대해 뇌물 수수 혐의로 구속영장을 청구했다. 공수처는 또 김 부장판사에게 금품을 제공한 혐의(뇌물 공여)를 받는 정모(48) 변호사도 함께 구속영장을 청구했다.

현직 판사가 직무와 관련해 금품을 받은 혐의로 구속영장이 청구된 것은 2016년 불거졌던 ‘정운호 게이트’에 연루됐던 김수천(67) 전 부장판사 이후 10년 만이다. 김 전 부장판사는 2014~2015년 각종 청탁을 들어주는 대가로 정운호 네이처리퍼블릭 회장에게서 레인지로버 차량 등 1억8000여 만원 상당의 금품을 받은 혐의(뇌물 수수 등)로 구속 기소돼 2018년 5월 징역 5년형이 확정됐다. 앞서 2015년에는 최민호(54) 전 부장판사가 ‘명동 사채왕’으로 불렸던 사채업자에게서 약 2억7000만원을 받은 혐의(알선수재)로 구속 기소돼 징역 3년형이 확정됐었다.

The two are senior and junior alumni from a high school in North Jeolla Province. Presiding Judge Kim, who moved to a local court in 2023, is believed to have developed a close relationship with Attorney Jeong, who primarily operates in the region. Over the next one to two years, Presiding Judge Kim handled over 20 cases taken on by Attorney Jeong, reducing sentences such as actual imprisonment or suspended sentences handed down in the first trial during appeals. This is the first time in 10 years since former Presiding Judge Kim Soo-cheon (67), implicated in the 2016 ‘Jung Woon-ho Gate,’ that a sitting judge has faced a bench warrant request for allegedly receiving bribes related to official duties. Former Presiding Judge Kim was indicted and arrested for receiving bribes worth 180 million Korean won, including a Range Rover vehicle, from Jung Woon-ho, chairman of Nature Republic, in exchange for favors from 2014 to 2015. He was sentenced to five years in prison in May 2018. Earlier, in 2015, former Presiding Judge Choi Min-ho (54) was indicted and arrested for receiving approximately 270 million Korean won from a loan shark nicknamed the “Myeongdong loan shark king” and was sentenced to three years in prison.
