WORLD’S LONGEST TABLE

세상에서 가장 긴 탁자

2010년 7월 18일 주일에 유럽에 있는 가장 혼잡한 고속도로 중 하나가

소위 “세상에서 가장 긴 탁자”가 되었습니다.

On Sunday, July 18, 2010,

one of the busiest highways in Europe became

what some called “the longest table in the world.”

당국은 독일 루흐르 지역 A40번 고속도로의 60킬로미터 구간을 막고,

사람들이 걷거나 자전거를 타거나 아니면

 길 위에 놓여진 20,000개의 탁자 중 하나에 앉을 수 있게 하였습니다.

Officials closed a 60-kilometer section of the A40 Autobahn

in Germany’s Ruhr region

so people could walk and bicy-cle or sit

at one of 20,000 tables set up on the roadway.

문화, 세대, 국적이 서로 다른 사람들을 연결시키기 위해 기획된

이 행사를 즐기러 찾아온 방문객은 대략 2백만 명 정도로 추산됩니다.

An estimated 2 mil-lion people came to enjoy an event

the director hoped would connect people

from many cultures, generations, and nations.

이 행사를 보면서 나는 주님의 만찬을 나누기 위해

신자들이 모여 둘러앉은 매우 거대한 식탁을 생각하게 되었습니다.

This event made me think of an even grander table

around which believers gather to share the Lord’s Supper.

 성찬식 동안 우리는 예수님의 재림이라는 역사 최고의 순간을 기대하면서

우리를 위한 예수님의 죽음을 기억합니다.

During communion, we remember Jesus’ death for us

as we anticipate the culmination of history at His return.

예수님은 십자가에 못 박히시기 바로 전에 제자들과 유월절 음식을 나누시며,

“내가 포도나무에서 난 것을 이제부터 내 아버지의 나라에서

새 것으로 너희와 함께 마시는 날까지 마시지 아니하리라”(마 26:29)

라고 말씀하셨습니다.

Just before Jesus was crucified,

He shared the Passover meal with His disciples,

telling them,

“I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on

until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom”.

주님의 식탁은 주님의 피로 구원하신

“각 족속과 방언과 백성과 나라 가운데에서”(계 5:9) 오는 모든 사람들을 연합시킵니다.

The Lord’s Table unites

everyone Christ has redeemed by His blood

“out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation”.

주님이 다시 오시는 날,

그 기쁨과 재회의 현장에서 예수님께 속한 모든 사람들은 예수님과 함께 식탁에 앉을 것입니다.

이 일에 비하면 아우토반에서 2백만 명이 모인 것은 아무것도 아닙니다.

One day, in a scene of reunion and joy,

all who belong to Jesus will sit down together with Him at a table

that will dwarf the Autobahn gathering.

그 식탁에서 함께 나눌 날을 우리는 기쁜 마음으로 고대합니다!

We joyfully anticipate sharing that table together!

Matthew 마태복음 26:26-30  

[마] 26:26	그들이 먹을 때에 예수께서 떡을 가지사 축복하시고 떼어 제자들에게 주시며 이르시되 받아서 먹으라 이것은 내 몸이니라 하시고 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and eat; this is my body."
[마] 26:27	또 잔을 가지사 감사 기도 하시고 그들에게 주시며 이르시되 너희가 다 이것을 마시라 Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you.
[마] 26:28	이것은 죄 사함을 얻게 하려고 많은 사람을 위하여 흘리는 바 나의 피 곧 언약의 피니라 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
[마] 26:29	그러나 너희에게 이르노니 내가 포도나무에서 난 것을 이제부터 내 아버지의 나라에서 새것으로 너희와 함께 마시는 날까지 마시지 아니하리라 하시니라 I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father's kingdom."
[마] 26:30	이에 그들이 찬미하고 감람 산으로 나아가니라 When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Here we gather to remember, In the breaking of the bread, Jesus, who for us was broken, And is now our living Head. Christ’s love creates unity out of diversity.

여기 떡을 떼는 자리에 함께 모여 예수님을 기념하네 우릴 위해 찢기신 그분 지금은 우리의 살아계신 머리이신 그분 그리스도의 사랑은  다양함 속에서 연합을 창출하신다.
