마더 테레사(3)- 도전

예수 그리스도의 말씀을 적극적으로 수행하며 봉사했던 그녀는 

 항상 "나는 아무 것도 아닙니다(I am nothing.)"라는 말을 자주 하였다.

노벨 평화상을 받고 연설을 할 때도 이 말을 했을 정도이다.

키도 작고 인물도 별로 잘나지 못했으며, 많이 배우지도 못했고 

별로 내세울 것이 없는 작은 수녀였지만, 가난한 사람들이나 병자들과 

함께 지내는 동안 인류의 가슴을 울리는 위대한 어머니가 될 수 있었다.

테레사 수녀는 우리에게 다음의 말들을 남겨놓았다.

“나는 하나님께서 나보다 더 쓸모 없는 인간을 찾는다면 

그 분께서는 그를 통해 더욱 위대한 일을 하실 것임을 믿습니다. 

왜냐하면 이일은 바로 주님 그분의 일이시기 때문입니다. 

 당신은 위대한 일을 위해 창조되었다는 사실을 기억하십시오. 

Remember, you have been created for great things.”

그리고 저 유명한 Anyway를 남겨 놓았다.

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;

Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;

Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;

Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;

Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;

Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;

Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;

Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;

Give the world the best you've got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;

It was never between you and them anyway.

조용한 모습 속에서 남겨놓은 글 한편을 떠올려 본다.

Life is a dream, realize it.

Life is a challenge, meet it.

Life is a duty, complete it.

Life is a game, play it.

Life is costly, care for it.

Life is wealth, keep it.

Life is love, enjoy it.

Life is mystery, know it.

Life is a promise, fulfill it.

Life is sorrow, overcome it.

Life is a song, sing it.

Life is a struggle, accept it.

Life is a tragedy, confront it.

Life is an adventure, dare it.

Life is luck, make it.

Life is too precious, do not destroy it.

Life is life, fight for it!

  

삶에 대한 정의를 남겨 놓고 떠나는 마지막 순간들...

테레사 수녀는 이제 영원한 안식처 천국으로

미련없이 훌훌 단신으로 떠나갔다. 

그녀의 몫이었던 사랑과 실천을 이제는

후대의 몫으로 단단히 남겨 놓고서...

우리에게 생(生)이 무엇인지를 화두처럼 남겨 놓은 것,

그것을 씹고 또 곱씹으면서 오늘을 열심히 살아가야 하겠다.

오는 길은 같더라도 가는 길은 너무 너무 다양 한게 인생인듯 싶다 ! 최소한 자의(어쩔 수없는 타의와 천재지변을 제외하고는) 로 어처구니 없이 생을 마감 하지는 말아야 겠다는 생각 ! Life is Life! fight for it! 가치있는 것에 매진 해봄이...
