『Softly as in a Morning Sunrise』 (부드럽게, 일출처럼)는

1928년 '오페레타'(Operetta 대사와 춤, 오케스트라가 있는

작은 오페라) "The New Moon"의 삽입곡입니다.

'Sigmund Romberg'가 작곡하고 'Oscar Hammerstein II'가 작사

하였습니다. 이 곡은 악기 연주로, 그리고 노래로 많은 재즈 뮤지션

들이 '레코딩'하였습니다. 원래 Tango 리듬으로 된 Dance 곡으로

코러스까지 포함 되었으나, 여러 가수가 연이어 부르면서 스타일이

많이 변형되었습니다. 원곡이 바뀌어 가는 과정에는 두 편의 영화에

삽입된 곡도 있었는데, 그래도 대체로 빠른 템포의 곡 들입니다.

하지만, 노래의 가사는 슬픈 내용이지요.

'Stan Getz', 'Zoot Sims', ' Arnett Cobb', 'John Coltrane', 'Sonny

Rollins' 등 기라성(綺羅星) 같은 연주자들과 'June Christy'등 재즈

Singer들의 주요 '레파토리'로 유명한 Jazz넘버로서 재즈 클럽이나

재즈 바에서 자주 흘러나오는 곡 중 하나 입니다.
