에베소서 4:17–24

그러므로 내가 이것을 말하며 주 안에서 증거하노니 이제부터는 이방인이 그 마음의 허망한 것으로 행함 같이 너희는 행하지 말라 저희 총명이 어두워지고 저희 가운데 있는 무지함과 저희 마음이 굳어짐으로 말미암아 하나님의 생명에서 떠나 있도다 저희가 감각 없는 자 되어 자신을 방탕에 방임하여 모든 더러운 것을 욕심으로 행하되 오직 너희는 그리스도를 이같이 배우지 아니하였느니라 진리가 예수 안에 있는 것 같이 너희가 과연 그에게서 듣고 또한 그 안에서 가르침을 받았을찐대 너희는 유혹의 욕심을 따라 썩어져 가는 구습을 좇는 옛 사람을 벗어 버리고 오직 심령으로 새롭게 되어 하나님을 따라 의와 진리의 거룩함으로 지으심을 받은 새 사람을 입으라.

예수님을 믿는 자는 이방인들처럼 세상의 허망한 것을 따라가서는 안 됩니다. 그러나 많은 그리스도인이 세상의 욕심 때문에 마음이 완악해지고 하나님의 뜻을 버리고 있습니다.

이러한 자들은 하나님의 생명에서 떠나 있으며, 영적인 감각을 잃어버린 상태에 있는 것입니다.

이러한 교인들은 자기 자신을 방탕에 내맡기고, 세상의 온갖 더러운 일들을 서슴없이 행하면서도 회개하지 않습니다.

예수님께서는 우리에게 이렇게 가르치지 않으셨습니다. 성경 말씀을 읽고 깨달은 자는 결코 이렇게 살아서는 안 됩니다. 이러한 삶의 결과는 저주와 사망이며, 결국 지옥에 이르게 되는 것입니다.

예수님을 믿는 자는 예수님 안에 거해야 합니다. 예수님 안에 거한다는 것은 예수님의 말씀에 순종하고, 죄를 지었을 때 회개하는 것입니다.

주님의 말씀을 따르지 않고 죄를 회개하지 않는 자는 예수님 밖에서 신앙생활을 하는 것입니다. 이러한 교인들은 마귀에게 속한 것입니다.

예수님을 믿는 자는 하나님의 말씀과 성령의 도우심으로 세상의 유혹을 물리쳐야 합니다. 예수님을 믿기 전에 행하던 죄악된 행위들을 모두 버려야 합니다.

우리의 심령을 날마다 새롭게 해야 합니다. 하나님의 의와 진리와 거룩함을 따라 새로운 사람으로 변화되어야 합니다.

교회에 다닌다고 해서 무조건 천국에 가는 것이 아닙니다. 예수님 안에서 새로운 사람이 되어야 합니다. 세상의 허망한 방식을 따라 살아서는 안 됩니다.

욕심과 미움과 교만을 버리고, 겸손과 온유와 사랑의 마음으로 살아야 합니다.

성경 말씀에 맞지 않는 인간의 교리를 버리고, 오직 예수님의 말씀으로 돌아와야 합니다.

Ephesians 4:17–24

I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.

You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. Surely you heard of him and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

Those who believe in Jesus must not follow the empty and meaningless ways of the world as the Gentiles do. However, many Christians have hardened their hearts because of worldly desires and have abandoned the will of God.

Such people are separated from the life of God and have lost their spiritual sensitivity.

These church members give themselves over to sinful and reckless living, committing all kinds of evil without hesitation, yet they do not repent.

Jesus did not teach us to live this way. Those who have read and understood the Scriptures must never live like this. The result of such a life is condemnation and death, ultimately leading to hell.

Those who believe in Jesus must remain in Him. To remain in Jesus means to obey His words and repent whenever we commit sin.

Those who do not obey the Lord's words and refuse to repent of their sins are living their religious lives outside of Jesus. Such church members belong to the devil.

Those who believe in Jesus must overcome the temptations of the world through the Word of God and the help of the Holy Spirit. They must abandon all the sinful practices they followed before believing in Jesus.

We must renew our hearts and spirits every day. We must be transformed into new people according to God's righteousness, truth, and holiness.

Simply attending church does not guarantee that we will enter heaven. We must become new people in Jesus. We must not live according to the empty and meaningless ways of the world.

We must put away greed, hatred, and pride, and live with hearts filled with humility, gentleness, and love.

We must reject human doctrines that are contrary to the Scriptures and return to the words of Jesus alone.
