20260731 만남 Encounter자동차 등록이나 면허증 갱신 등으로 간혹 가는 교통국 출장소가 이 동네에 있다.아침 일곱 시에 개장을 하는데 좀 일찍 가면 줄도 없이 금방 일을 처리해준다.몇 시간씩 걸리던 뉴욕이나 뉴저지에 비하면 그야말로 지상천국. ㅋㅋ이동진료차량 등록을 갱신하기 위해 찾았던 그날은 평소보다 좀 늦게 갔더니 기다리는 사람들이 좀 있었다.그중에 눈에 띄는 사람.현지인이 아닌 백인.말을 걸고 인사를 나누고 신분을 물어보니 새로 부임하는 투바시티 통합학군 교육감 (Tuba City Unified School District Super Intendant).당 학군은 중, 고등학교와 네 초등학교 등 총 천삼사백여 학생들을 수용하는 여섯 개의 학교들이 소속되어 있다.뭔 상관이냐 하면 아무 상관없는 것이고 상관을 한들 뭔 일이 생기겠냐만...일종의 옳다구나 하는 생각에 전화번호 교환을 청하니 흔쾌히 응한다. 약간의 시간 뜸을 들인 후에 만남을 청하여 사무실에서 만나기로 약속한 것이 금요일 오후 세 시 반. (다음 월요일, 8월 3일이 개학이니 아주 바쁜 시간. ㅠㅠ.)금요 침사역을 마치고 집으로 돌아와 몸 정리를 하고 사무실로 찾아가 만났다.그저 만나서 반가웠고 뭔 마음에 또 만남을 청하게 되었다고...거의 잡담과 일부 진담 수준의 대화를 나누고...피차에 좋은 일 있으면 연락이나 하자고 예정된 한 시간의 만남을 삼사십 분의 대화로 아쉬움 없이 마무리를 했다.이분의 업무수행으로 인해서 교사 102명을 포함하는 261 전체교직원과 천삼백여 학생들 모두가 행복하게 업무를 수행하여 궁극적으로 이 지역에서 절실하게 필요한 교육의 발전으로 열매 맺기를 간절히 바란다. There is a MVD office in this neighborhood that I occasionally visit for things like vehicle registration or license renewal.They open at seven in the morning, so if you go a little early, they handle your business quickly without any line.Compared to New York or New Jersey, which took hours and hours, it was truly heaven on earth. lolThe day I went to renew the registration of my mobile clinic vehicle, I arrived a little later than usual, and there were several people waiting.Among them, the person who stands out.A white person, not a local.After starting a conversation, exchanging greetings, and asking about his status, I learned that he was the newly appointed Superintendent of the Tuba City Unified School District.The district comprises six schools, including middle and high schools and four elementary schools, which accommodate a total of about 1300-1400 students.As for what it matters, it doesn’t matter at all, and even if it did matter, what would happen anyway...Thinking it was somehow right, I asked to exchange phone numbers, and he readily agreed. After a while for settling down, I asked to meet and we arranged one hour meeting at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. (The school starts next Monday, August 3, so it’s a very busy time.) T_TAfter finishing work at acupuncture service on Friday, I came home, got ready, and went to his office.I expressed that I was just glad to meet him, and for some reason I ended up asking to meet again...We had conversations that were almost just small talk and little bit of serious talk in the between.We ended the meeting within only 30-40 minutes instead of originally planned one-hour without any regrets.I suggested to keep in touch if anything good happens to either of us.I sincerely hope that, through his work, all 261 staff members—including 102 teachers—and the approximately 1,300 and more students will work out their shares happily and ultimately bear fruit in the advancement of education in this needed community.
