에베소서 5:14-21

그러므로 이르시기를 잠자는 자여 깨어서 죽은 자들 가운데서 일어나라 그리스도께서 네게 비취시리라 하셨느니라 그런즉 너희가 어떻게 행할 것을 자세히 주의하여 지혜 없는 자 같이 말고 오직 지혜 있는 자 같이 하여 세월을 아끼라 때가 악하니라 그러므로 어리석은 자가 되지 말고 오직 주의 뜻이 무엇인가 이해하라 술 취하지 말라 이는 방탕한 것이니 오직 성령의 충만을 받으라 시와 찬미와 신령한 노래들로 서로 화답하며 너희의 마음으로 주께 노래하며 찬송하며 범사에 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 항상 아버지 하나님께 감사하며 그리스도를 경외함으로 피차 복종하라

“잠자는 자여 깨어서 죽은 자들 가운데서 일어나라.” 이 말씀은 예수를 믿는 자들에게 세상 사람들처럼 살지 말고 죄악의 삶에서 깨어나라는 뜻이다.

예수를 믿는 자가 하나님의 말씀에 불순종하면서도 회개하지 않는다면 영적으로 잠자는 자와 같다. 예수를 믿지 않는 자들은 하나님을 알지 못하기 때문에 자기 마음대로 살아간다. 그들의 영은 죄로 인해 죽은 상태에 있다. 그러나 예수를 믿고 영적으로 살아난 자가 불신자처럼 육신의 정욕을 따라 산다면 죄악의 깊은 잠에 빠진 것이다.

죽은 자나 깊이 잠든 자는 스스로 일어나 활동하지 못한다. 이와 같이 하나님을 믿지 않는 자와 하나님을 믿으면서도 불순종하는 자는 모두 주님의 뜻을 따르지 않고 육신의 정욕대로 살아간다. 그들의 삶에는 본질적인 차이가 없는 것이다.

예수를 믿는 자들은 죄와 사망에서 벗어나 영적으로 살아난 자들이다. 그러므로 영이 죽은 자들처럼 살아서는 결코 안 된다. 하나님의 말씀에 순종하고 죄를 멀리하며 빛의 자녀답게 살아야 한다.

하나님의 백성들이여, 죄악의 삶에서 깨어나라. 신속히 회개하고 주님의 말씀으로 돌아오라. 불순종하면서도 회개하지 않는 자는 결국 하나님의 심판을 받고 멸망하게 된다.

그러므로 자신이 어떻게 살아가고 있는지 자세히 살펴야 한다. 어리석은 자처럼 살지 말고 지혜로운 자처럼 살아야 한다. 악한 세상에 물들지 말고 세월을 아껴야 한다. 우리에게 주어진 시간은 한정되어 있다. 살아 있는 동안 회개하고 순종할 기회를 놓치지 말아야 한다. 무엇이 주님의 뜻인지 깨닫고 그 뜻을 실천하기 위해 힘써야 한다.

술에 취하여 방탕하게 살지 말고 오직 성령의 충만함을 받아 성령의 인도하심을 따라야 한다. 마음으로 하나님을 찬양하고, 생명과 모든 것을 주시는 하나님께 항상 감사해야 한다.

또한 그리스도를 경외하는 마음으로 서로 존중하고 복종하며, 서로의 허물을 용서하고 이해하며 사랑해야 한다. 세상의 탐욕과 육신의 정욕을 버리고 하나님의 말씀을 따라 살아야 한다.

하나님께 영광을 돌리는 것은 입술로만 하나님을 찬양하는 것이 아니라, 자신의 죄를 회개하고 하나님의 말씀을 삶 속에서 실천하는 것이다.

이것이 영적으로 깨어 있는 믿음이며, 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 삶이고, 천국에 이르는 살아 있는 믿음이다.

Ephesians 5:14–21

for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said: "Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you." Be very careful, then, how you live--not as unwise but as wise,making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord,always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

“Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead.” These words mean that those who believe in Jesus must not live like the people of the world, but must wake up from a life of sin.

If someone who believes in Jesus disobeys God's Word and does not repent, that person is like someone who is spiritually asleep. Those who do not believe in Jesus live according to their own desires because they do not know God. Their spirits are dead because of sin. However, if someone who believes in Jesus and has become spiritually alive lives according to the desires of the flesh like an unbeliever, that person has fallen into a deep sleep of sin.

A dead person or someone in a deep sleep cannot rise and act on their own. In the same way, those who do not believe in God and those who believe in God but disobey Him both live according to the desires of the flesh rather than following the Lord's will. There is no essential difference in the way they live.

Those who believe in Jesus have been delivered from sin and death and have become spiritually alive. Therefore, they must never live like those who are spiritually dead. They must obey God's Word, stay away from sin, and live as children of light.

People of God, wake up from your sinful lives. Repent without delay and return to the Lord's Word. Those who continue to disobey without repenting will eventually face God's judgment and perish.

Therefore, we must carefully examine how we are living. We must not live as foolish people but as wise people. We must not be corrupted by this evil world, but must make the most of our time. The time given to us is limited. While we are still alive, we must not miss the opportunity to repent and obey God. We must understand what the Lord's will is and strive to put it into practice.

We must not become drunk with wine and live in reckless indulgence. Instead, we must be filled with the Holy Spirit and follow His guidance. We must praise God from our hearts and always give thanks to Him, who gives us life and everything we have.

Furthermore, out of reverence for Christ, we must respect and submit to one another, forgive and understand one another's faults, and love one another. We must abandon worldly greed and the desires of the flesh and live according to God's Word.

Glorifying God is not merely praising Him with our lips. It means repenting of our sins and putting God's Word into practice in our daily lives.

This is faith that is spiritually awake, a life that pleases God, and living faith that leads to heaven.
