Old Wine, New Wine, Wine of Adultery, and Wineskin
What is the old wine that people like, what is the new wine, and what is the wine of adultery? Moreover, what is the new wineskin and old wineskin? (Lk 5) This word is a word spoken in parables. The realities of the three wines of the parable are each the word of testimony delivered by each of the three types of pastors, and a wineskin is a person who is able to retain the word.
In Is 5, there are two types of vines, one is the choicest vine and the other is the wild vine, and it says that these trees were the people of Israel. Also, in Gn 2-3, there were two trees, the tree of life and the tree that makes known good and evil (the tree of the fruit of knowledge of good and evil). And in Rv 22, there is the tree of life that bears 12 crops of fruit every month, and its branches and leaves are for the healing of all nations.
Jesus spoke in parables, “the kingdom of heaven is like sowing good seed, it sprouts and grows to become a large tree and the birds come and perch on its branches” (Mt 13: 31-32). If the seed that is sown is the seed of life (Ref. Lk 8:11, Mk 4:14), this tree would be the tree of life, and the fruit produced by its branches would be called the fruit of the tree of life. Jesus called himself the true vine and his disciples its branches, and he said that those twelve branches will bear much fruit (Jn 15:1-5).
On the contrary, in Dn 4, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon was a large tree with many fruits, where birds sat on its branches and the beasts of the field (wild animals) found shelter under it.
Thus, Jesus and Babylon’s King Nebuchadnezzar were two trees of different kinds. Among these two trees, which tree should we become the fruit of? And have you seen these two types of trees? Would you recognize them? One is the true vine of the kingdom of heaven, and the other is the wild vine of the world, Babylon, the kingdom of demons. These two trees appear in Revelation and fight against each other.
Let’s find out about the new and old wines, the wine of adultery, and the old and new wineskins.
At the time of Jesus' first coming, the old wine was the law of Moses, the new wine was the new word that testifies the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies, and the wine of adultery that had destroyed all nations was the false doctrines of false pastors who married and associated with the devil (Jn 8:44). Also, a new wineskin is the heart of a new person, and an old wineskin is the heart of an old person who has held on to things of the old. Therefore, Lk 5:37-38 says, when a new word is put into the heart of an old person, he is unable to bear it and bursts, and the new wine which is the new word, as well as the old man, are thrown away.
The old wine at the time of the first coming was the law of Moses, and the new wine was the word that had never been heard before, the new word of Jesus that testifies the prophecies of the Old Testament and its fulfillment. However, because people failed to understand the meaning of Jesus’ word of testimony, they didn’t acquire a taste for it and so loved the old wine, the law of Moses. To say one eats the word is to eat with one’s ears (Ref. Jer 15:16, Is 55:1-3).
As we saw earlier, the vine is a person, and its fruit, a person who has been evangelized (Ref. Js 1:18). The wine was a parable for the words of a sermon. The true vine of Jn 15 and the wild vine of Dn 4 was expressed figuratively as vines and trees, to represent Jesus and Nebuchadnezzar respectively. Therefore, Jesus was the vine that produced twelve crops of fruit every month and the tree of life of Rv 22, and the prostitute Babylon of Rv 17 and 18 was the vine of adultery and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil that made known good and evil.
This Babylon’s vine of adultery was the beast with seven heads and ten horns that is controlled by the prostitute. In Rv 18, the wild vine of adultery, the tree of the knowledge of good and evil receives judgment and disappears, and only the tree of life exists. That is why Babylon, the dragon, and the beast with seven heads and ten horns also disappeared. Those recorded, destroyed all nations with their false doctrines and made the nations marry their gods. However, they received judgment and came to an end (Rv 18). Their wine of adultery is the venom of serpents and the deadly poison of cobras (Ref. Dt 32:32-33). This was eaten by all nations (Rv 17:2, Rv 18:3).
However, the wine to be eaten today is not the wine of Moses, nor the wine of Jesus' first coming. What we must eat at the time of the second coming, is the revelation that was hidden in the New Testament Revelation. This is a new wine from the choicest vine which was hidden in parables (seven seals). This new wine is only contained in new wineskins which are new people. They are the saints of the 12 tribes, who were created by being sealed (Rv7).
