Diploma of Textiles, Clothing and FootwearFashion Design National Code: LMT50100 Jump to: Units of Competency | Course Delivery | Unit of Competency Details What does this course involve?This course enables you to build on skills attained through studying Certificates III and IV in Clothing Production. In this course you acquire advanced skills training for design and production based careers in the fashion industry, as well as placing an emphasis on knowledge and skills required for self-employment. The practical areas covered are designing ranges of garments, developing professional design portfolios using Corel draw – Garment Fragments, Adobe Illustrator, advanced pattern development with the introduction of the Gerber computer system, and producing exclusive made-to-measure special occasion wear. The course covers knowledge on implementing employment practices and monitoring/controlling disbursements within a given budget for a business. Units such as global operations support and production planning, are offered. You must also undertake two weeks of work experience within the fashion industry. You will be encouraged to participate in industry competitions and awards. Previously, Box Hill Institute students have won awards in the Fashion Designer of the Year, Fringe Festival, and Texskills competitions. This course is also available to International Students. Course structureThe Diploma of Textiles Clothing and Footwear - Fashion Design is awarded on the basis of demonstrated competencies in seven units. Entrance requirementsYou must have successfully completed Certificate IV in Clothing Production that equates to the first year of Diploma in Textiles, Clothing & Footwear - Fashion. Selection criteriaSee Certificate IV in Clothing Production. Length of courseFull-time - 2 - 2.5 years. How to applyApply through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC).
