더불어민주당 새 원내대표로 3선 한병도(59·전북 익산을) 의원이 6일 추대됐다. 한 원내대표는 지난 1월 김병기 전 원내대표가 공천 헌금 의혹으로 사퇴하면서 원내대표로 선출됐고, 이번 선거에서 단독 입후보해 연임에 성공했다.

한 원내대표는 이날 이재명 대통령 사건을 공소취소할 수 있게 한 ‘조작 기소’ 특검법과 관련해 “특검을 통한 진실 규명과 사법적 회복은 민주당이 반드시 해야 할 일”이라면서 “처리 시기, 절차, 내용과 관련해서는 지방선거 이후에 국민과 당원의 의견을 수렴하고 숙고 절차를 충분히 거쳐 판단하도록 하겠다”고 했다. 앞서 민주당은 선거 전에 특검법을 처리하려고 했으나 이 대통령이 제동을 걸었다.

한 원내대표는 조만간 22대 국회 하반기 원 구성 논의에도 착수할 예정이다. 한 원내대표는 국민의힘이 상임위원장인 상임위의 법안 처리 속도를 문제 삼으며 여당이 17개 상임위원장을 모두 갖고 올 수 있다고 해왔다. 특히 핵심 상임위인 법제사법위원회는 꼭 민주당이 맡겠다는 입장이다.

국민의힘도 송언석 원내대표 임기가 끝나는 6월 초중순쯤 신임 원내대표를 뽑는다. 후보군으로는 4선 김도읍, 3선 성일종·정점식 의원이 거론되고 있다.

SEOUL, May 6 (Yonhap) -- The ruling Democratic Party (DP) reelected Rep. Han Byung-do as its floor leader Wednesday, marking the first time a DP whip was elected to a second consecutive term.

The three-term lawmaker ran uncontested in an election held four months after he won his first term to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of his predecessor.
During a general meeting of DP lawmakers, Han won a majority of the vote, which combined the ballots of lawmakers and dues-paying party members by a ratio of 8:2.

"The coming year is the golden time," he said during his acceptance speech. "From winning the local elections to overcoming the Middle East crisis and restoring people's livelihoods, there is a mountain of work to do."

Han will be charged with leading the party's parliamentary activities until next May, including negotiations with the main opposition People Power Party over the formation of committees for the latter half of the current Assembly's term.
Other pressing issues include navigating differences over a DP-proposed bill for a special counsel investigation into allegedly fabricated indictments under the previous Yoon Suk Yeol administration, including those targeting President Lee Jae Myung, and overseeing the upcoming national convention in August.
Han, who represents a district in the southwestern city of Iksan, served as senior secretary for political affairs to former President Moon Jae-in and was considered a key member of the pro-Moon faction.

He later served as chief of strategy and planning for then DP leader Lee Jae Myung and then as operations room chief for Lee's presidential campaign last year.
