This course allows you to specialise in a number of different streams.
The following streams lead to careers in their respective fields:
You are free to select units of competency of your choice, depending on your areas of interest. You will be advised during the enrolment procedure which modules to select according to which stream you choose.
For up-to-date information and details of units of competency that will be offered, please contact the Centre for Automotive, Transport and Engineering on 9286 9528.
This course is also available to International Students.
An extensive range of units of competencies is available. A list of units together with delivery timetables for full-time and part-time day/evening studies can be obtained by contacting the Centre for Automotive, Transport and Engineering.
You should have successfully completed Year 12 VCE or its equivalent, comprising of four units of mathematics, plus two units of English, physics, or science or be a mature age applicant.
If you do not have the necessary prerequisite studies you may be required to undertake some additional foundation or transition studies.
Indentured tradespeople who have completed a recognised apprenticeship can apply for recognition of prior learning.
Full-time students are selected through the VTAC process. Refer to a relevant copy of the VTAC guide for selection criteria. Part-time students should contact the Centre for Automotive, Transport and Engineering.
Full-time - two years.
Part-time is available. ( A combination of full-time for one, two or three semesters, followed by part-time study is also possible and is often favoured by those seeking industry experience and some income.)
For full-time study, apply through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC). Refer to a relevant copy of the VTAC guide for application procedures.
For part-time study, apply directly to Box Hill Institute's Centre for Automotive, Transport and Engineering.
The course begins at the start of the year (February), however special arrangements can sometimes be made in the case of mature age students. Mid-year commencement is possible in most streams, so check with the Centre for Automotive, Transport and Engineering.
If you have any queries, please contact the Institute on +61 3 9286 9528.
Mechanical engineering associates work in areas of research and development, production engineering, installation and maintenance of equipment. There is some overlapping between mechanical engineering associates and draftspersons or manufacturing technologists.
A manufacturing technologist would work in any of the many areas of manufacturing, such as planning, estimating, supervising, quality control, costing, production planning, development, testing, purchasing, or sales.
A trained draftsperson works in diverse areas such as escalators, steam and gas turbines, nuclear power stations, motor vehicles, internal combustion engines, aircraft, plastics, rubber, mining, oil or transport industries and any other industry where metallic or non-metallic (plastic or composite) parts are designed.
