영국의 국민가수 피터 가브리엘입니다 1975년 ‘제네시스’를 탈퇴하고 첫 4장의 앨범은 그럭저럭한 성공을 거두다가 86년 발표한 <So> 가 대박을 치면서 월클 가수가 됩니다.

이후 정규 앨범 발매 간격이 점점 길어지기 시작하면서 그 다음 앨범인 <Us>는 6년 뒤인 1992년에 발표되는데 전작의 큰 성공을 이어가기 힘들것으로 보이기는 했지만 의외로 꽤 괜찮은 성공을 거두기도 했지요.

이 곡 <Blood Of Eden>이 수록된 <Us>는 피터 가브리엘의 이혼과 새 연인과의 관계등 을 겪으면서 이것을 주제로 하여 개인간 혹은 집단 사이의 관계와 단절, 소통 등의 내용을 담고 있습니다.

이곡 <Blood Of Eden>도 마찬가지여서 성경 창세기에 나오는 에덴동산에서 영감을 받아 얼핏 들으면 연인들의 사랑을 묘사하는 듯하나 잘 들어보면 남성과 여성 전체의 연합을 이야기하고 있지요…

위 영상은 앨범 홍보 투어중 1993년 이태리에서의 공연으로 <Secret World Live> 라는 제목으로 CD, DVD, 블루레이 등으로 발표되었습니다.

베이스치는 토니 레빈이나 북치는 마누 카체 같은 유명한 분들도 보이네요…인상적인 보컬을 보여주는 여성분은 Paula Cole 이라는 분인데 원곡의 여성 보컬이었던 Sinead O’Connor의 파트를 잘 소화해 주네요..
