"A little while, and you will no longer see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me." Some of His disciples then said to one another, "What is this thing He is telling us, 'A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me'; and, 'because I go to the Father'?" So they were saying, "What is this that He says, 'A little while'? We do not know what He is talking about." Jesus knew that they wished to question Him, and He said to them, "Are you deliberating together about this, that I said, 'A little while, and you will not see Me, and again a little while, and you will see Me'? "Truly, truly, I say to you, that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will grieve, but your grief will be turned into joy. John 16:16-20
Which church do you go to?
John the Apostle held a ministry at Ephesus Church. Paul was a tour pastor who toured churches in Asia. It is the same as the form of Methodism today. Among them, Antioch Church is called Christians for the first time thanks to society. James, the brother of Jesus, defended Jerusalem and held a joint ministry with other apostles. It's a form of Presbyterianism. The Roman Church also helped Paul by setting up its own meeting in the absence of pastors.
So what was the form of the church that was the result of Jesus' ministry? Today the church actually has the form of a synagogue. When they were prisoners of war, they gathered in places where Jews could not return to their homeland to talk and make friends, which spread back to Jerusalem. However, the appearance of the synagogue leader and the dispute over who sits at the top of the feast are clearly visible in today's church.
If you think about it a little, you can see that the church that the Lord founded has not been in any shape. There was a meeting, a cure and a sermon, but there was no type of church where the Lord passed by. Churches are made of people. Administratively, three people can establish a non-profit church. Perhaps in the case of North Korea, there are many churches without such pastors.
In general, however, there are many forms in which the church begins with pastors at the center and people gather there to talk. This was the same in the case of the Lord as well. People and disciples gathered where the Lord went, and He performed words and miracles. Today's text shows the last boundaries of this ministry of the Lord. You won't be able to see me soon. If the Lord is not present at that time, the meeting that followed him, the church, will be dispersed like a sheep who has lost its shepherd.
No matter how formless the church was, the Lord was the center of the church and people could gather there. Such a church will eventually collapse without the Lord. In other words, it was not formalized, but there was a form. A gathering centered on the Lord. That was it. The Lord did not want to create a church that was form-dependent like this. The church that the Lord established was a power. And it was life.
In order for people to know this, the Lord, who was the center of the intangible form, had to abandon the form. That's what the Lord said you wouldn't see me in a little while. However, if the church is destroyed together when it is so lost, it is simply a house built on sand. So the second thing he said was, "You'll see me again in a little while." The Lord who sees again does not point to the Lord who will come in the future. I speak of the Lord who united with us.
How do you view the current state of our church? We are practicing the living church only in the power of the united Lord, not relying on form. The Lord created a church that was not attributed to pastors, which was not driven by organizational power, nor by a gathering of people, but only by the new life of those who allied with the Lord. Now is the time to listen to the wailing sound of the form collapsing, but it's time to be worried but rather pleased.
