and not a new convert, so that he will not become conceited and fall into the condemnation incurred by the devil. And he must have a good reputation with those outside the church, so that he will not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. Timothy 3:6-7
Do you know the difference between salvation and redemption?
Today, we will look at the difference between salvation and redemption. If you can't distinguish this difference, while you are good at in faith, in some situation like commiting sin, then you might doubt if you have been saved. The Bible clearly uses expressions of salvation and redemption separately. Salvation is often an expression of being laid off by illness, danger, power, etc. But the redemption is different. Redemption means that you get back what you deserve, such as inheritance.
Our journey of faith is often compared to the Exodus process of the Israelites. Just as the people of Israel live as slaves of Egypt, those who believe live as slaves of the world. The common conviction of salvation is the event in which the people of Israel, who used to live in Egypt, escaped through ten disasters and crossed the Red Sea to come out into the wilderness. Exodus itself is a miracle and an experience of God's salvation, but that is not the conclusion. Now we are on the way to Canaan.
They had a promise to the land of Canaan given to their ancestor Abraham. It doesn't mean heaven after death. You're supposed to have it with you while you live on this land. Salvation refers to Exodus and life in Canaan is called redemption. Salvation and redemption are both processes achieved by faith. When you came out of Egypt, you couldn't follow without faith, and it's not possible without faith in the process of conquering Canaan's lands.
However, Exodus almost unilaterally followed the given situation, but the conquest of Canaan was different. The promise was invisible and the only thing they could see was the strength of the tribes that already lived there. We need two kinds of beliefs. We need faith in Exodus and faith in Canaan. All the Israeli adults who died in the desert died because they had no faith in Canaan.
The Jordan River is often called death. This is true, but at the same time, it is an expression of distrust of the people of Israel who died in the wilderness without faith. They died because they had no faith in entering Canaan and driving out the seven tribes and getting the land back. As such, it is distrustful to believe that crossing the Jordan into Canaan is only a heaven after physical death. The inheritance of Canaan is not to die, but to be returned while you are alive.
People say we are now living a religious life passing through the wilderness. Just as we were led into the pillar of fire and cloud in the wilderness, ate manna and quail and burst rocks to water, we are now protected by such guidance. But the meaning of wilderness is to kill those who have no faith. In the end, our death is not the physical death of the Jordan, but the death of faithlessness.
Who wouldn't believe it? They are not those who believe in promises, but those who rely on experience. That's why it is said the Jordan River is a road you've never been to before. Those who died in the wilderness are thoughts, habits, and experiences from Egypt. Knowing that it is you when you condemn these things is the reason you haven't experienced faith yet. "But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near." Luke 21:28
