They took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, bearing His own cross, to the place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha. There they crucified Him, and with Him two other men, one on either side, and Jesus in between. John 19:17-18
The activities of Jesus Christ were done in fact, but there are many cases where the meaning is more essential than the event itself. For example, it is clear that Jesus walked on water, but that is not why we believe in the Lord as Christ. Nor do we wish to walk on water on our way to the Lord. Rather, water represents the world and the meaning that the Lord walks on it is more important.
Today, we are going to look at the meaning of Jesus' cross written in John Chapter 19. Among them, I would like to note that Jesus, in particular, took the cross at Golgotha. This place is recorded as follows in the Book of Revelation recorded by John the Apostle.
And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which mystically is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified. Revelation 11:8
Obviously historically and geographically Golgotha, Sodom, and Egypt are completely different places. But we don't find this record in the Book of Revelation unfamiliar at all. Because we already have a spiritual interpretation of these places. These places do not represent geographical commonalities, but some aspects of our personalities, the most secular and sin-related parts. And that's where the Lord took the cross.
If you try to understand the cross of the Lord in a social, cultural sense or a conventional theological approach, you will fall into a mystery. Socially, it was retaliation for the threat of the authority of the priesthood group, and culturally, it was a legal punishment for being the son of God or the king of the Jews. Either way, the cross just surrendered to a hostile opponent and was killed. All the disciples and groups who followed had also fled.
Existing theology interprets this as a atonement, but the Lord replaced his death as a Passover lamb, not the sacrifice of atonement. The Book of Revelation showed that the meaning of the Lord's cross, which was executed as a historical fact, should also be interpreted spiritually. But at the same time, the meaning of spiritual becomes a fact, not an interpretation, in the spirit world. In other words, the death of the Lord, the death of Golgotha, represents the unity of our individuals in the most secular and sinful places of our personalities.
And when this is done historically, the spirit is proclaimed to all spirits. Therefore, the death of the Lord deserves more attention to the spiritual meaning than the historical meaning of the physical situation. His death represents His blood, or life, in the land symbolized by each of our personalities, as Abel's record says, "The earth has received his blood."
One of the surprising things about John's record is that he knows this spiritual meaning through the Book of Revelation, but does not record the spiritual deeds of the Lord from the death until the Resurrection. Because it is not a historical process, but a personal spiritual activity carried out on all personalities of all ages. We hereby have evangelical evidence of the fact that our lives are united with the Lord.
