Finally back to singing again! New publications for choir and organ
SPOTLIGHT |
|
Marc-Antoine Charpentier |
|
Everyone knows it – perhaps you too will recall its catchy tune: the “Eurovision Hymn”, the main melody of which comes from Charpentier’s Te Deum. But the Messe de Minuit pour Noël is also well-known amongst choirs and is frequently performed at Christmas. Carus has an edition scored for the original forces, and the work is now also available in an arrangement for choir and organ!
The vocal parts (solos and choir) are identical to the edition of the original version, so that the vocal score and choral score can be used. |

The latest CARUS blog is about Charpentier’s Christmas cantatas, which are also available on a CD. |

Bach: Christmas Oratorio, Part 1 |
|
The arrangements in our “Choir & Organ” series are proving extremely popular – especially, of course, in the current situation. As well as Charpentier’s Messe de Minuit pour Noël (see above), new additions to the series include an arrangement of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio (Part 1). The arrangement is a fantastic addition for choirs who don’t want to miss out on “Jauchzet, frohlocket”. The edition is also suitable for performing the work in church services with organ accompaniment – as well as for concert performance!

Messiaen: Cinq rechants & O sacrum convivium |
|
Olivier Messiaen’s Cinq rechants place the highest musical demands on choral singers. Frieder Bernius and the Kammerchor Stuttgart master these challenges brilliantly. They have not only recorded works by Messiaen, but also other 20th century vocal music in demanding arrangements for solo ensemble. The result is a recording which is wholly convincing and leaves nothing to be desired musically! |

Trostlied. Betrübte Herzen um des Todes willen |
|
Schütz composed this four-part chorale movement for family friends who had lost their four-month-old son, and he probably also wrote the 6-verse text. The work was only rediscovered in 2011. A short, personal setting of the funeral music.
Separate edition taken from Vol. 19 of the Stuttgart Schütz Edition (Complete Edition Carus 20.919). |

Schütz und Telemann |
› TELEMANN |
You don’t always have to use the app: anyone who wants to practise their own choral part as part of the overall sound of choir and instruments can alternatively use the audio-only version of the Carus Choir Coach. The Carus Choir Coach (audio) is available either on CD or to download as an MP3 file. We have released two new works this month:- The Musikalische Exequien I–III, with which Schütz created one of the most elaborate and at the same time most intimate funeral compositions in the history of music.
- Telemann’s Advent cantata Machet die Tore weit, which has long been one of his most frequently performed church music works.
