[000] Now, the Rest of the Story.
[001] Alex had been casing the joint for months.
[002] He was sure, as a second-story man could be, that the
city building he wanted to break into was vulnerable.
[003] It was a daring plan on which he finally settled and a
dangerous one.
[004] There was no unobtrusive way in at ground level, nor
through any window at any level.
[005] That's how tight security was.
[006] So, Alex figured that he and his gang would scale the
building next door.
[007] Would actually climb the outside of the building next
door, and once on the roof, they would jump to the roof
of the building that they were targeting, and again,
access to it from there.
[008] The afternoon of April 20, 1986, the operation was
underway.
[009] Alex and his accomplices had selected a place to climb
the neighbor building where nobody would see them.
[010] Rainy weather slowed them down, but they reached the roof
without incident.
[011] And there, they stood gazing out across the chasm
separating the two buildings, an empty space which now
seemed even greater than it probably was.
[012] Alex, as ringleader, went first.
[013] With a running start, then a mighty leap, he soared
upward and outward, and after rolling to a sprawl, he
sprang to his feet, beckoning his partners to follow.
[014] And one by one they did.
[015] And then, it was Dace's turn.
[016] Dace was a small pretty golden-haired girl--could
scarcely have appeared less the criminal type.
[017] Neither was she especially brave, but she was determined.
[018] So, she took a deep breath, and she sprinted, and she
sprang, and she made it to the next roof.
[019] But the roof was slanted and smooth, and by now quite
rain-slick.
[020] So when Dace lost her balance and fell, she slid toward
the edge of the roof.
[021] But Alex spotted her, grabbed the roof antenna with one
hand, reached for Dace with the other hand.
[022] The girl was still sliding, but struggling to reach back,
and within moments of toppling to her death, Dace grabbed
Alex's hand and she was saved.
[023] Alex and his accomplices got inside that day, and
listening, listening in seclusion, in the shadows, they
stole their treasure.
[024] Because the building they'd broken into was the
world-renowned Moscow Conservatory in whose Bol'shoy Hall
was performing the greatest pianist Vladimir Horowitz.
[025] Alex and his comrades were music students, you see.
[026] They could not afford the expensive tickets to that
once-in-a-life-time piano recital, so they risked their
lives just to listen from the rafters.
[027] Alex, Alexei Sultanov, was 16 at the time.
[028] And yes, you should know his name because 3 years later
he would go to America, and he would enter the
prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition,
and he would win, becoming the youngest pianist ever to
do so.
[029] There would be many trials, including a devastating
illness and the all-too-brief life of Alexei Sultanov,
but his greatest triumph, his dearest prize, was a lovely
blonde-haired cello student named "Dace Abele" whom he
would marry and whose own life was once spared in the
grasp of the young pianist's powerful hand.
[030] Only, well, now you know the rest of the story.

[000] 지금, the Rest of the Story입니다.
[030] 단지, 글쎄, 지금에야 당신은 the rest of the story를 알고
