[Today’s FOCUS ]
영어는 강약 패턴이 규칙적으로 나타나고 속도가 붙어서 리듬이 생기게 된다. 한 단어에서 액센트가 있는 것처럼 한 문장에서도 강하게 들리는 발음이 있고 약하게 들리는 발음이 있다. 의미를 많이 가지고 있는 단어(content words 내용어)는 강하게 발음하고, 별다른 의미 없이 문법적인 기능만을 담당하는 단어(function words 기능어)는 약하게 발음된다.
content words : 명사, 동사, 형용사, 부사 등
function words: 대명사, 전치사, 관사, 접속사, 조동사 등
