그러나 일각에서는 일부 외국 여행객들이 사회적 관습과 현지 환경에 대한 존중 부족으로 현지인들의 반발을 사는 경우가 있다. 이들의 과실이 의도적이지 않으며 이해부족에서 기인한다고 하더라도 현지인들에 눈에 이들은 범법자로 보일 뿐이어서 서로간의 갈등이 일어나게 된다. 그러므로 여행객들은 출발 전 여행지의 관습과 전통에 대한 지식을 충분히 숙지하는 것이 대단히 중요하다.
