[Topic1- Best College Majors by Salary]
While some go to college to expand their mind and cultivate themselves, others have a far more mercenary goal in mind: They just want to make money. There’s nothing wrong with either choice. However, the reason you choose to go to college will impact what major you decide to take. If you’re looking to make a lot of money right out of college, these are majors you should look into. All figures are from PayScale.com.
Computer Science
Different from computer engineering which deals with hardware, computer science is the discipline dedicated to computer software. It’s probably not too surprising that computer science majors are among the top earning majors in the United States, or that they are highly employable. As the world increasingly becomes plugged in at all times (think mobile technology and the apps boom), computer science majors might not even need employment in many cases — they might be able to get by just by freelancing or by making their own products and selling them directly to the public. Computer science majors start out earning just over $52,000 per year and are earning $98,000 per year by the time they move into mid-career.
Economics
You’ve probably noticed a pattern by now: Virtually all of the top paying college majors require a lot of math. Economics is no exception to this rule, but it’s probably the closest thing to a humanity that we’ve seen on the list so far. You’ll definitely be reading a lot of stuff that isn’t math when you pursue an economics degree, but you’re also going to be crunching a lot of numbers. Still, it doesn’t take an economics major to figure out that making $47,000 a year once you get out of college isn’t bad and earning $94,000 annually at mid-career is nothing to sneeze at, either.

[Topic2- A smoke-free country? New Zealand taxes aim for it]
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — There are smoke-free bars, smoke-free parks, even smoke-free college campuses. But a smoke-free country?
New Zealand's government on Thursday squeezed smokers more than ever by announcing a 40 percent hike in tobacco taxes over the next four years. Prices here are already among the highest in the world, and by 2016 they will top 20 New Zealand dollars ($15) a pack on average.
Officials hope higher taxes and new restrictions will bring the nation of 4.4 million closer to a recent pledge to snuff out the habit entirely by 2025. Other countries have lauded the idea of trying to wean their populace off tobacco, but few, if any, have been willing to put a date on it.
Health officials here are so serious they recently considered hiking the cost of a pack of cigarettes to 100 New Zealand dollars ($75). Although that idea was dismissed, another measure, which will force retailers to hide cigarettes below the counter rather than putting them on display, will come into effect in July.
Smoking rates among New Zealand adults have fallen from about 30 percent in 1986 to about 20 percent today. Cigarette sales have fallen more sharply, suggesting that even people who haven't quit cut back as prices rose.
People who are still smoking aren't happy about where prices are going.
Chris Hobman said the cost is "horrendous" and could drive some low-income people to commit crimes to support their habit. He said the government needs to provide more support and alternatives to smokers if it's serious about making them quit.
Wellington resident Hayley Mauriohooho, who has smoked for about 20 years, said that although it would be good if more people quit, higher taxes won't stop her.
The New Zealand branch of cigarette company British American Tobacco says the tax increases will force consumers to turn to the black market.
"Consumer demand is far better served by legitimate companies than by the illegal operators that will surely grow as the government makes it increasingly difficult for people to buy their product of choice," wrote Susan Jones, head of corporate and regulatory affairs, in an email.
So far, New Zealand officials have seen few cases of illegal tobacco sales.
The South Pacific nation's smoking statistics are similar to those in other developed countries. According to a 2011 study by the World Health Organization, about 20 percent of adult New Zealanders smoke. That compares to about 16 percent of adults in the U.S., 17 percent in Australia, 23 percent in China and 27 percent in France.
New Zealand already charges more than 70 percent tax on cigarettes, compared to 41 percent on average for China, 45 percent on average for the U.S., 64 percent for Australia and 80 percent for France.

[Topic3- Designs]
Jonathan Ive, designer of Apple’s best-selling iMacs, iPods, iPhones and iPads has received a knighthood from Britain’s Queen Elizabeth. This means he can now put “Sir” Richard on his business cards. The honour is the highest award the Queen can give to a citizen. Sir Richard received it for his services to design and enterprise – his iconic designs of Apple’s products helped turn the Silicon Valley giant into the world’s most admired brand and most valuable company. He has worked with Apple since the mid-1990s and is Senior Vice President of Industrial Design. He shared Apple co-founder Steve Jobs’ passion for great quality and stylish products. Many of these have few buttons but are highly functional and easy to use.
Ive said of his award: “To be recognized with this honour is absolutely thrilling and I am both humbled and sincerely grateful.” Ive told reporters his childhood dream was to be a designer, saying: “I discovered at an early age that all I’ve ever wanted to do is design. I feel enormously fortunate that I continue to be able to design and make products with a truly remarkable group of people here at Apple.” Steve Jobs supposedly called Ive his “soul mate” because of their shared understanding of simplicity in design. He elevated the British designer to a special position within Apple, answerable only to Jobs. Six of beautiful andIve’s works, including the original iPod, are housed in a collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
