At A Loss For Words 무슨 말을 해야 할지 모르다
Here's a multipurpose (다목적의) phrase for you today.
This phrase, "I'm at a loss for words"
can be used in many different situations.
Sometimes we use it for happy situations,
when you are really touched (감정적이 된)
or moved (감동하다) by something.
For instance, I could use it now because
I just had a baby girl so I could say,
"I'm at a loss for words. She's just beautiful."
But it is also used for sad situations, like if someone dies.
"I'm so sorry to hear about your father passing.
I'm at a loss for words."
Or it's also used when you are really surprised.
"I can't believe you remembered my birthday
and threw a surprise party! I'm at a loss for words."
We also use it sarcastically (비꼬는 투로) when someone does something ridiculous (터무니없는) or something that annoys us.
For instance you might say,
"Wow, that joke was really bad.
I'm at a loss for words."
Are you at a loss for words?
