대만 지오셋(GEOSAT) 항공우주기술 사가 일본 포츄니오(Fortunio) 사와 대(對)드론 체계 'DDD(Drone Detective & Disabilitating System)의 기술이전 계약을 체결했다. DDD는 탐지 헤드 부품, 삼각대, 소프트웨어 컴퓨터의 3개의 부품으로 구성되어 있고, 모든 부품을 전용 케이스에 한번에 넣어 가지고 다닐수 있고, 무게가 가벼운 것이 최대의 특징이고, 탐지 헤드 부품만 따로 차량의 천장과 같은 곳에 설치가 가능하여 운용도 가능하다. 최대 탐지 범위는 약 25km이다. 이 계약으로 인해 앞으로 대만에서도 DDD의 생산이 가능하게 되었다.

The "HARPAS" system is a cutting-edge hybrid artillery weapon designed to provide robust anti-aircraft defense for troops and critical infrastructure. TADTE 2023: GEOSAT to manufacture Japanese C-UAV systems in Taiwan
Taiwan's GEOSAT Aerospace & Technology signed a transfer of technology (ToT) agreement with Fortunio Japan to manufacture the latter's counter-unmanned aerial vehicle (C-UAV) known as ‘DDD (Drone Detective & Disabilitating System)' in Taiwan at the Taipei Aerospace & Defense Technology Exhibition 2023 (TADTE 2023) held in Taipei from 14 to 16 September.
A GEOSAT spokesperson told Janes at the showthat the system will be offered to the Republic of China (RoC) Armed Forces to meet the service's C-UAV requirements.
According to the company specifications, the DDD can detect UAVs within a range of 25 km.
The DDD comprises three units: detection head unit, tripod, and software and personal computer. The circular detection head unit is mounted on the tripod with an overall height and weight of 1,430 mm and 35 kg respectively.
The height, weight, and diameter of the head unit are 150 mm, 7 kg, and 375 mm respectively. The system can be mounted on a ship or a military vehicle, the spokesperson added.
3. China unveils first Lynx hybrid 6x6 all-terrain assault vehicle
On September 14, 2023, at the 6th China Tianjin International Helicopter Expo, China unveiled a new military development known as the Lynx. This marked the introduction of a gasoline-electric hybrid assault vehicle into the Chinese military. The Lynx shares design elements with the previously known Bobcat 6x6 and can be transported by a Z-8L transport helicopter.
The integration of hybrid technology in the Lynx offers certain advantages, including increased endurance and improved fuel-electric hybrid ratios, which can be beneficial during air transportation and airdrop missions conducted by air assault brigades.
Based on the Bobcat assault vehicle, available in both 4x4 and 6x6 chassis configurations, the Lynx primarily serves infantry teams. Its all-wheel-drive configuration allows it to handle material transport and troop deployment in challenging terrain.
To address concerns about the Bobcat's vulnerability, the Lynx has undergone significant enhancements. The entire vehicle is now fortified with armor, and additional reinforced steel plates have been integrated into the passenger compartment and cockpit, enhancing crew survivability. Enhanced shock absorbers contribute to improved driving comfort. These upgrades have earned the new hybrid 6x6 vehicle the nickname "shelled Lynx."
Despite the added armor and increased weight, the Lynx remains transportable by existing 13-ton helicopters. This upgrade effectively resolves previous issues while harnessing the advantages of the gasoline-electric hybrid model.
One notable feature of the Lynx is its adaptability. It is designed for easy modification to carry heavy machine guns, mortars, and rapid-fire cannons. This adaptability makes the Lynx suitable for Chinese air assault brigades and individual airdrop combat units, providing essential fire support.
From a military standpoint, the Lynx is a gasoline-electric hybrid air assault vehicle that offers several advantages. One key benefit is enhanced fuel efficiency, which can be advantageous in military operations by extending the vehicle's operational range and reducing the need for frequent refueling, particularly in remote or hostile environments.
The Lynx features electric propulsion, which results in reduced noise and heat emissions. This characteristic enhances its stealth capabilities, making it less detectable by enemy forces and reducing its signature on enemy sensors. Consequently, the Lynx becomes well-suited for stealthy reconnaissance missions or surprise attacks.
The hybrid system, providing instant torque and improved low-speed capabilities, enables the 6x6 to navigate challenging terrains, overcome obstacles, and ascend steep gradients more effectively. Belgrade, Serbia, September 25, 2023 - In a groundbreaking showcase at the Partner 2023 defense exhibition, the Serbian defense industry has unveiled the latest iteration of their locally-made M84 main battle tank, the M-84AS2. This state-of-the-art tank boasts a myriad of enhancements in firepower, mobility, protection, and situational awareness, setting a new benchmark in armored warfare.
Drawing its lineage from the Soviet-made T-72 Main Battle Tank, which was produced under license by Yugoslavia, the M84 has undergone significant transformations to meet the evolving demands of the Yugoslav Army. The original M-84 was equipped with a 125 mm smoothbore cannon, an automatic loading system, a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun, and a 12.7mm anti-aircraft gun.
The M-84AS2, however, takes warfare to the next level. While retaining the 125mm smoothbore L48 gun and the 7.62mm coaxial machine gun, the tank now features a cutting-edge RCWS (Remotely Controlled Weapon Station) armed with a 12.7mm heavy machine gun. This allows the tank commander to execute firing operations from within the tank, ensuring safety and precision.
A highlight of the M-84AS2 is its advanced Fire Control System. This includes a four-channel gunner sight, a stabilized panoramic commander's viewer, and a digital biaxial meteorological sensor. These features enable the gunner and commander to simultaneously track and acquire two separate targets, enhancing the tank's combat capabilities.
The M-84AS2 also prioritizes the commander's situational awareness. The tank is equipped with comprehensive video surveillance, a battle management system, and state-of-the-art digital communication equipment.
Protection has been significantly ramped up in the M-84AS2. The tank is now armored with a new generation of Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA), offering superior protection against advanced threats. Additionally, the tank is equipped with a laser radiation detection system and automatic smoke grenade dischargers, further enhancing its defensive capabilities. The tank has a combat weight of 46.5 tons.
Survivability remains a key focus. The M-84AS2 features an automatic fire and fuel explosion extinguishing subsystem and a multispectral camouflage net, reducing its visibility across various spectrums.
Lastly, the M-84AS2 promises enhanced mobility. With a revamped engine, new torsion bars, shock absorbers, and durable double-pin forged tracks, this tank is built for longevity and performance on the battlefield. The tank is motorized with a new diesel engine developing 840 hp. It can now reach a top road speed of 60 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 500 km.
This unveiling marks a significant milestone for the Serbian defense industry, showcasing their commitment to innovation and excellence in armored warfare.
5. Ukraine conflict: Ukraine deploying 1,000s of Lithuanian C-UAS jammers
“Thousands” of Lithuanian counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UASs) are operational with the Ukrainian army, Ivan Sybyriakov, manager of the unmanned systems centre at Ukrainian state-owned SpetsTechnoExport (STE), told Janes .
The C-UAS solutions in question are the Skywiper Electronic Drone Mitigation 4 - System (EDM4S) and the Skywiper Omni, developed by Lithuanian company NT Service.
The Skywiper EDM4S solution, which disrupts the UAS's control, video, and global navigation satellite services (GNSS) signals, is considered by the user to be the “best option for the regular soldier” because of its long-range (3–5 km line-of-sight) and relatively light weight (6.5 kg), he said.
He added that price was also an important consideration.
The system can operate for up to 1 hour and disrupts UASs operating on 900 MHz, 2.4 and 5.8 GHz, as well as GNSS L1 1.5 GHz frequency bands. Other custom frequencies can be added depending on the customer and local regulation rules, Sybyriakov said.
